Approved by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Ali Pate and supported through the Global Fund, the arrival of the injectable PrEP option signals Nigeria’s push toward more innovative, evidence‑based prevention tools.
Lenacapavir, a twice‑yearly shot, offers a powerful alternative for people who struggle with daily oral PrEP, improving adherence and expanding access for populations at higher risk.
Dr. Adebobola Bashorun, National Coordinator of the National HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STDs Control Programme, said the introduction of LEN PrEP reflects Nigeria’s commitment to accelerating progress toward epidemic control.
By widening prevention choices and strengthening service delivery, the government aims to reduce new HIV infections and improve health outcomes across communities nationwide.
