The fear of transmitting the virus to the baby can be overwhelming But today there is real hope
With consistent use of antiretroviral therapy ARVs a mother can reduce her viral load to an undetectable level When this happens the risk of passing HIV to her baby during breastfeeding becomes very low ..
Treatment truly makes the difference
Health experts recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months This means giving only breast milk no water herbs or other foods unless advised by a healthcare provider Mixing breast milk with other feeds too early can increase the risk of transmission
The most important thing is adherence A mother must take her ARVs daily attend clinic visits and monitor her viral load When she stays healthy her baby is protected too
HIV does not end motherhood With proper care treatment and support many women living with HIV breastfeed safely and raise HIV negative children
I breastfed all my children and followed all the guidelines and none tested positive to God be the glory.

ReplyDeleteWow! That nice
ReplyDeleteYou are doing well, well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is true. Knowledge and treatment have evolved. In my time i was advised not to breastfeed ( maybe my viral load was not undetectable. I ended up using those expensive "breast milk like" brands. To God be the glory, my children are all HIV free adults today. I was very careful in my interactions with them especially when it came to blood ( using blades, pins , needles etc), made sure all my milking equipment were clean and sterile. Not playing with any illness that befell them etc It was expensive and tedious but worth it in the end. There is a large HIV community out there..... we are all just being wary and not putting ourselves out in public. No matter how woke people claim to be, HIV is still an issue for a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteVery educative. Thank God for your healthy family.
