FCCPC Debunks Claims That It Banned Airtime And Data Borrowing

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has debunked reports claiming it banned airtime borrowing or data advance services in Nigeria.

In a statement on Friday April 17, 2026, the Commission clarified that it did not issue any directive stopping telecom operators from offering airtime or data credit to subscribers.
It says that such claims circulating online were misleading.

The FCCPC, says its recent engagements with telecom companies focused on consumer protection, transparency, and fair billing practices, not the suspension of credit‑based services.
The Commission stressed that airtime borrowing and data advance remain fully operational, assuring users that no disruption is expected.
The agency urged Nigerians to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
