Why President Tinubu Addressed The Victims Of The Plateau Attacks At The Airport

President Tinubu’s decision to address victims of the Plateau attacks at the airport was shaped by logistics and timing. His Thursday schedule included hosting Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno for a crucial bilateral meeting on regional security, which ran longer than planned, delaying his departure for Jos.

Because the Jos airport lacks night‑flight navigational aids and the drive into town takes about 40 minutes, it became impractical to visit the affected communities before dusk.
To ensure he still met the victims, officials arranged for representatives to gather in a hall near the airport, where Tinubu could speak with them directly. Present were the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Inspector General of Police, who had earlier visited Rukuba, the epicentre of the violence.

Tinubu used the meeting to console families, promise justice, and announce the deployment of 5,000 AI‑enabled cameras to strengthen security monitoring.

He also invited Plateau leaders to Abuja for deeper talks on lasting peace, emphasizing that true stability must be built with the people, not imposed on them.

  1. What an excuse. So hosting chad president and the other meeting couldn't be shifted. It clearly shows he didn't care about the people killed.

    1. Chad is a hotspot and hiding place for the people behind these attacks. Preventing a repeat and obtaining more information is important, hence the prioritizing of that visit. Other government officials have visited. The state governor has visited. Official statement has long been released. Some emergency assistance in terms of money and healthcare has been dispatched.

A Yoruba proverb says that it's the person digging the grave that is actually of help to the dead and that those crying and paying condolences are just making noise.

The visit from the president is not what lead to the capture of the ter or wrists who attacked Benue and Ondo. It was actions of state officials acting on presidential directive. It was not visits that returned victims in Keara from captivity. It was government action. Chase away the hawk before addressing the chickens.

    2. That's not enough! You didn't mention that rice was shared to the people...now that would have solved all these problems.
