Woman Who Birthed Quadruplets Dies With One Of Her Newborn In Lagos Hospital After N3m Bill Detention

A 28‑year‑old woman, Mrs. Charity Anani, who delivered quadruplets in a Hospital in Igando, Lagos, has died along with one of her newborns.

Her husband, Mr. Paul, said she developed sudden breathing complications on Thursday, April 2, 2026, and despite being placed on oxygen and medication, she died the following morning.
Charity had earlier been detained in the hospital with her babies because the family could not settle their N3 million medical bill, leaving an outstanding balance of N1.4 million at the time of her death.
One of the quadruplets, who had been placed in an incubator due to complications, also died before Charity passed. Paul said his wife had asked about the baby, but he withheld the news because of her condition.

The family has since been discharged from the hospital.

The outstanding balance must have been settled by donations from well meaning Nigerians because this news of their detention has been out there since.

No woman should kp@! during childbirth.
I read somewhere that pregnant women with multiple babies should be given priority and extra care and I completely agree.

  14. If finances are a challenge, please attend a government hospital and plan well over the 9 months so you are not stranded. Also, family heath insurance is a must . The hospital also has it's running costs. This issue of locking up patients is not the best for hospitals. This incident will take a huge toll on staff with feelings of guilt.
