Obi’s legal team dismissed the allegation as baseless and malicious, saying the remarks were intended to tarnish Obi’s reputation and expose him to public ridicule.
The pre‑action letter, dated June 9, 2026, and issued by Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN, described Okonkwo’s claims as fabricated and damaging. Obi’s lawyers are demanding ₦5 billion in compensation and have given Okonkwo seven days to withdraw the allegation and publish a widely circulated public apology across all his social media platforms.
They also requested a written undertaking that he will refrain from making further defamatory statements.
Kenneth Okonkwo recently left the African Democratic Congress and has openly backed Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 election.

Honestly, where will Kenneth get that kind of money from?
Even from the days of Living in Bondage till date, I don't think Kenneth Okonkwo has seen one billion naira from his acting career. If he had, he probably would not have bothered venturing into politics and accepting dangerous political roles.
So where exactly will he get 5 billion from?
A job that he just started recently for Atiku, you want the man to start borrowing money just to defend the job?
