Violent crime seems to have returned to Anambra as gunmen whose identities were not immediately ascertained have attacked men of the Anambra State Police Command, killing at least two officers.




The state has been peaceful for months, following a heavy attack on criminals, especially gunmen masquerading as Biafra agitators, until Sunday night’s incident.
The incident happened alond Awa-Ndiukwuenu-Ufuma Road, where it was gathered the men accosted the policemen on patrol and shot at them, leaving two bodies on the main road.

Anambra Govt Gives Mortuaries June 5 Deadline to Register or Renew Licences
The Anambra State Government has directed all mortuary owners and operators to register their facilities or renew expired licences.
The notice, signed by Dr. Chukwulobelu Ugochukwu on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, gave operators until June 5, 2026 to comply.
The government warned that defaulters and illegal operators will face sanctions. Hospitals offering mortuary services must also register their mortuary units separately.
This move is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s health sector reforms aimed at proper regulation, preventing disease spread, and ensuring public health standards.

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed June 3 for hearing in a suit filed by Nafiu-Bala Gombe, seeking to stop David Mark and others from parading themselves as leaders of the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arraigned 15 Chinese nationals and nine Nigerians before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged illegal lithium mining in Nasarawa State. The defendants were arraigned before Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, Federal High Court, Abuja, following their arrest on May 16, 2026, in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The Commander of the Mining Marshals, Attah Onoja, disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday.
