Iyabo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2007 to 2011. After losing her re‑election bid, she relocated to the United States to pursue an academic career.
She returned to active politics in January 2026 after 15 years and joined the APC, declaring her ambition to run for governor. However, on May 31, she resigned from the party after losing the governorship ticket, accusing the APC leadership of disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment.
On Wednesday, she was officially welcomed into the PDP at a massive rally held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, marking her full return to the opposition party.
