BE CAREFUL ON GIVING ADVICE - A MUST READ!!!
One thing people should be very careful about is giving advice or pushing strong opinions from a privileged position without realizing it.
A lot of advice sounds wise until you examine where it is coming from.
Some people speak from comfort and forget that comfort has shaped how they think. They assume their choices are simply the result of discipline, intelligence, faith, or strong values, while ignoring the role of money, access, education, stable housing, healthcare, family support, useful networks, and the basic relief of not living under crushing pressure every day.
This is where the problem begins.
Once a person does not account for their own advantage, they begin turning personal experience into universal wisdom. They speak as though what was possible for them is equally possible for everybody else if only they would think better, work harder, or pray more.
This is how advice becomes careless.
It is easy to preach patience when your own survival is not on the line. It is easy to speak of principles when need is not pressing you from every direction.
This is why maturity requires more than having an opinion. It requires location awareness. It requires the ability to ask yourself, from where am I speaking? What advantages am I assuming? What realities am I failing to see because life has not forced me to face them?
This does not mean truth changes because people are under pressure. It does mean truth should be spoken with humility, context, and seriousness.
A person can say something true and still say it in a way that is blind, arrogant, and unhelpful.
And this is one reason many people feel unseen when public commentary addresses their lives. They are being spoken to by people who know principles but do not understand conditions. So the words may sound clean, but they land like stones.
There is a difference between conviction and elitism.
Conviction tells the truth with clarity. Elitism pushes truth, if it is truth at all, without enough compassion, context, or awareness of how different people actually live.
And elitism is not only about money. A person can be elitist intellectually, spiritually, socially, or culturally. You can look down on people simply because life has never cornered you in the same way. You can speak as though others are only making bad choices, when many are navigating burdens you have never had to carry.
This is why people should be careful before advising others, especially on sensitive matters. Before you speak strongly, ask yourself whether you have truly accounted for the weight other people are under.
Because one of the easiest ways to become unhelpful is to confuse your vantage point with wisdom.
And one of the clearest marks of maturity is knowing that where you are standing may be shaping what you are able to see.

A NARRATIVE WORTH READING
Some men are more wicked than the devil.
This is exactly why their old age is always very lonely
A few days ago I was at the hospital.
A friend's daughter was not feeling fine, so I joined his wife to the hospital since he had a morning shift at work.
We were at the children's ward.
And what I saw there has refused to leave my head.
Everywhere I looked, I saw women, women carrying babies, women sitting beside hospital beds, women sleeping on chairs, women who have practically paused their lives because their children needed them.
Some of the children were seriously sick.
Some were battling different health conditions.
Some mothers looked exhausted, you could see it in their faces, you could see it in their eyes and you could see that they hadn't slept properly in days.
Then I saw three babies inside incubators.
Tiny babies, babies that came into this world too early and now have to fight before they can even begin to enjoy life.
These women have been in that hospital for over a week.
And not one husband was there.
So I asked questions in my heart
Maybe their husbands travelled, maybe they work in another state, maybe they are far away.
Even if they were working in another state, nothing stopping them from taking excuse to be with their family as the man of the house.
When I asked the women about their husbands they all said the same thing
"Our husbands are around, not abroad, not out of state but around.
Going to work and coming back home.
And that got me angry.
Because when that baby cries at 2am, it is the mother that gets up.
When the doctor calls, it is the mother that answers.
When bad news comes, it is the mother that carries the fear.
When injections are being given, it is the mother holding the child.
When tears start flowing in the middle of the night because nobody knows what tomorrow holds, it is the mother crying alone.
Yet some st*pid men believe sending money is enough. No sir.
Money is not enough, your child is in the hospital fighting for life and you have not shown your face for one week? How?
Some men are very wicked.
The painful part is that some of these same men can spend hours with another woman.
They can sit in a beer parlour.
They can attend football viewing centres.
They can spend the whole evening laughing with friends.
But somehow they cannot spend one hour sitting beside their wife and child in a hospital.
How did some men become this wicked?
And what hurts me the most is knowing that some men will even blame the woman.
Some will say: "She can't even give me a normal baby."
"Let her handle it, after all she's the mother."
Imagine that level of wickedness.
A child both of you created, achild carrying your blood, a child fighting for life.
And your reSponse is to abandon both mother and child because things did not go exactly the way you expected.
Honestly, some men do not deserve the title of husband.
Fatherhood is showing up.
Fatherhood is standing beside your wife when she's breaking.
Fatherhood is carrying the burden together.
Fatherhood is looking at your child and wife in that hospital bed and saying
"We will fight this battle together."
I know what I went through running around for my friend's child that was just stooling.Buying things here and there, going from one place to another, worrying, checking on her constantly.
And that was just ordinary stooling
Now imagine what these women are going through.
Imagine carrying that burden alone for one week.
Imagine carrying that burden alone while watching your child connected to tubes and machines.
Imagine carrying that burden alone while your husband is somewhere living life as if nothing is happening.
Some men are wicked, very wicked and heartless.
And one thing life has taught me is this
The same wife you're abandoning today.
The same children you're refusing to show up for today.
They are the same people you will expect to stand by you when old age comes.
Life has a way of returning energy.
And many men don't realize that until it's too late.

DeleteWE KEEP MOVING!!
Boring na small thing?
DeleteDem plenty like dat for here
I had the opportunity to listen in on a conversation sometime last week. It was a disturbing narrative, but then it really showed the reality of most married women in Nigeria. The narrator( married woman) was complaining to someone else, I won't have listened to the conversation, but the narrator was really loud. According to her, there was an elderly woman who was living in the same neighbourhood as hers. They were cordial. So, the narrator had an event earlier this month. So, on the day of the event, the elderly woman came around to help her with things, but she came around with her teenage daughter. I'm sure you guys know how mature some teenage gals look nowadays. Most of them look older than their age. I think that teenage daughter is in this category. As soon the narrator sighted her, she sent her away with the excuse that her mother brought her in to seduce her(the narrator) husband. In her words, " she knows my husband is around, yet she brought her mature daughter. My husband has abandoned us for 11 years. He recently came back, and they want to snatched him away again. I couldn't hide my anger, so I chased the daughter and her mom away. " Furthermore, she said she doesn't even mind if they encounter each other outside, but in her home, she won't allow it. To say I was gobsmacked was an understatement. She even said further that men are naturally covetous. I couldn't say anything to her because I just happened to overheard. But then, the other women she was narrating saw nothing wrong in that conversation and even encouraged her the more.
ReplyDeleteThen it hits me, this is why some men think they're doing women a solid by being their lover. The average mindset of a married Nigerian woman can be pretty surprising. Many of them feel it's their job to keep their men on track. They even make excuses for their men's shady atrocities. Some of them will even act oblivious to their dirty habits. Some women know their husbands are sleeping with their maid, and instead of taking action, they will keep chasing them away, citing witchcraft and laziness as excuses. If this narrator was that comedienne, would she have reported Baba Ijesha? There are thousands of that narrator outside there. But because Baba Ijesha sin was brought to public, he should pay with his life? He was indicted and served his terms, so what's wrong with starting a new life with someone who wants to?
I'm not a rape apologist, but the sexual rot we have in our society today stems from some women overindulgence of their men. At least, he sinned, and he paid for it. When is that molester you call husband going to pay for his? Sanctimonious good-for-nothing lots!π The fact that some of you believe the mercy of God, which is not physical, is sufficient for you with that criminal acts that no one has caught with but want Baba Ijesha head is actually amusing to see. Clowns!
I actually don't want to share this story, but the news online today made me write it out. I actually feel the overconsumption of others ' lives and choices will be the death of some netizens. Why are you crying more than the bereaved? How did someone else's joy become your own headache? Una wan burst artery on top people wey no know you.
My dear, it's a deep rot. Some phoolish women will blame their neices, neighbours etc for seducing their husband. A big grown man o.
DeleteIf you have nothing to say, zip it.
DeleteCome on Brianna. You started well but later derailed the point you were trying to make. Wouldn't the clap back session of Sunday been a better space to share what you wrote instead?
DeleteToo long a story that makes absolutely no sense.
DeleteAdunni, i tire. At least he has paid the price for his foolishness. How about the ones we still have around us that yet to get caught? Wrong focus.
DeleteAnon, my epistle is not for a cretin like you. Keep it moving!
Dogedity, point out the part you think shouldn't be here? Like I wrote up there, I didn't want to share the story because it's not my business. The news online today just feels like a connection to it. In today's society, we obsess over people's dark past too much. Meanwhile, the real issue is staring us in the face, but we skirt around it. What's wrong with someone moving on and starting fresh after serving time for their past mistakes?
Madam Briana kindly go and marry your baba ijesha as second wife and allow us to breathe what kind of crush are you crushing on him since. Give your future daughters to men ke baba ijesha in the future and enjoy it
DeleteDeputy Jesus anon, Oh, sure, it's super easy to judge others when your own skeletons are locked away in a private vault. The one you married, you sabi wetin he don do before he marry you. And the future husbands wey you don keep for your daughters, you don sabi wetin dem go do? Oponu.
DeleteIf we are going to condemn, let's start from the beginning otherwise live and let's live.

DeleteThere are some caring men in Nigeria, just that they're rare, I remember when I was seriously sick in 2009 and was admitted, there was one girl who was also seriously sick that we were admitted together in the same ward, her father was the one that stayed with her throughout her admission, her mother came on the day she was admitted and went back the same day, she didn't show up until the third day, when she came back on the third day, she didn't bring a dime, food or anything for the welfare of her daughter and didn't spend up to 30 minutes before she left, the father was questioning her why didn't she bring ordinary food for her daughter, she was just giving excuses, that father was the one taking care of the girl, bathing, going to buy food, going home once in a while to cook food because he wanted his daughter to eat homemade food.
ReplyDeleteShe went back and didn't call or show up again until her daughter was discharged after two weeks, and didn't drop a pin when they were looking for money to discharge the lady, she didn't even show any concerns, the father was the one running up and down.
The father even went as far as going to his village to bring bathing water for his daughter when the hospital didn't have light to pump water and said they can't be putting generator on every time, I even used from his water to bathe, and he took care of me temporarily and took me to the restroom when I needed to use it because my mother needed to go home and get some things for me.
This man you described is an outlier ! It still stands that majority of men / fathers leave their wives / mothers to handle such situations alone so her observation still stands
