According to a statement issued by Kurt Wall, Oghenebrume was sentenced by U.S. Chief Judge Shelly Dick after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as “an alien admitted under a non‑immigrant visa.” He also faces deportation upon completion of his prison term.
Prosecutors said Oghenebrume illegally possessed a Glock 43X 9mm pistol on February 7, 2025, while on an F‑1 student visa. The incident began when his former girlfriend arrived at his apartment with their baby and allegedly found him inside with another woman.
An argument broke out, and Oghenebrume fired the weapon while the baby was present. The confrontation continued inside and outside the apartment, where he allegedly discharged the firearm multiple times as the woman fled. Investigators later found multiple bullet strikes in the apartment complex walls.
Authorities also alleged that he smashed his ex‑girlfriend’s phone and took custody of the baby, who remained at the scene throughout the incident. When deputies arrived, Oghenebrume attempted to walk away and discarded the firearm into nearby shrubs before being detained.
A neighbour reported hearing the gunfire and said the shots caused his ears to ring. During a post‑Miranda interview, Oghenebrume admitted firing the weapon, claiming he only wanted his ex‑girlfriend to leave.
