Senate Turns Down Call To Probe N1.3 Billion Allocation To Fake Presidential Council

The Nigerian Senate has decided not to investigate how N1.3 billion was included in the 2026 budget for a group called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Lawmakers discussed the issue on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 and a senator from Kano South, Kawu Sumaila, raised the matter and asked for a full probe. He wanted to know how the money got into the budget, who approved it, and if any funds had already been spent.

The Senate, however, voted against starting its own investigation. Instead, they chose to wait for the outcome of a probe already ordered by President Bola Tinubu through the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The Presidency has clearly stated that PFIPC is not a real government agency. No one in the government set it up or appointed its claimed director-general.
A man named Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew is facing charges for allegedly pretending to run the council and using fake papers to get benefits.
