UK Removes Nigeria And Ghana Trained Teachers From QTS List

The United Kingdom has removed teachers trained in Nigeria and Ghana from the list of countries whose teaching qualifications are accepted for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England.


The change took effect on September 9, 2026, ending the previous exemption that allowed teachers from both countries to apply directly for QTS.
According to the UK Department for Education, teaching qualifications and experience must now be assessed against strict requirements before QTS can be granted.
