Arukwe’s exact words:
“ALL THE PRODUCERS IN NOLLYWOOD WANT TO KILL ME WITH ODOGWU CHARACTER.”
He explained that after his standout Odogwu performances, every script that lands on his table repeats the same formula ,mandating him to use heavy accent, shouting, flamboyance, and the stereotypical rich Igbo chief.
He says that the producers believe the character guarantees return on investment, especially on YouTube, where audiences love the Odogwu persona.
Arukwe who was a guest on CreativiTea Live with Lynda, said he is tired of being boxed into one role because he is a blank canvas who can play any tribe or character. He urged the filmmakers to take risks and create new roles for him, same way someone once took a chance on Odogwu and it became a hit…..
His manager previously admitted he is also exhausted by the repetitive “igbotic roles,” that they often have to balance business because YouTube demands Odogwu, while cinema allows more range.

He’s a versatile actor and should not be typecasted.
ReplyDeleteIt fits you and because you are perfect in the Odogwu role.
ReplyDeleteSo far aza dey drop for account 😁.
Or you reject it
Don't let them typecast you oh, na your acting career go suffer am.
ReplyDeleteyou killed the role whenever you act it. Keep doing your job.
ReplyDeleteTime for him to either write his own scripts or commission a writer for the kind of roles he actually wants.
ReplyDeleteNothing changes unless YOU make that drastic change.
Don't leave your future inside other hands.
In structured climes, actors and actresses can spend several months learning new accents, gaining weight, losing weight etc for a role.
But these people you call your your so called stars, who are at best bottom barrel, mediocre with their 1 dimensional skills acting skills and robotic manerisms will stay the same year in and out, dependent on the hailings of an equally obtuse palm wine drunkard fan base.
The height of any change is to shave or change wig.
Range?
What range?
Not enough range to cover the back of a 1 item receipt.
But lucky lots are in the land of people who think acting is opening jaws wide to show discolored teeth and calcified tongue.
Carry on.
Love your first paragraph...don't let them take away your food o
DeleteThat's the problem. Once you're good at a particular role, they stereotype you.
ReplyDeleteThe industry encourages stereotypes. 🙄🙄🙄
ReplyDeleteYou're good at your crafts..don't let them box you o.. tomorrow they say you've outgrown some casting..that's why Clinton Joshua refused to be boxed..
ReplyDeleteJust like Ralph fiennes , hollywood directors boxing him with cold hearted villain roles.
ReplyDeleteThem go sha accept the role, man must wack.
