Actress Habibat Jinadu Reveals Why She Bleached Her Skin And Why She Stopped

Yoruba actress Habibat Jinadu, popularly known as Real Omo Jinad, has opened up about the reason she started bleaching her sking and why she later quit. In a new emotional revelation, the actress recounted how constant discrimination on movie sets pushed her into bleaching.

"Whenever they turn the light on me at a movie set, the director would say I was too dark. I didn't pay much attention to this until one day someone said I looked like a monkey. This made me bleach my skin so that I could get more jobs." She said
Habibat said the decision did work at first. After bleaching, she started getting more roles because directors now saw her as "fair enough" for camera but the bleaching ruined her skin. Wounds refused to heal, and she started developing permanent scars all over her body. The turning point came in 2023 after she had a baby.
She says that fellow actress Adunni Ade saw her and gave her the confidence she needed. She said that after she stopped and returned to her natural dark skin, people started mocking her and saying she was broke and couldn't afford bleaching creams. Habibat concluded by claiming she has learned to embrace her natural skin, stressing that black is beautiful and urged others struggling with any habit they are no longer comfortable with to find the courage to quit.

Her story was shared by BBC News Yoruba ….

  4. Real beauty comes in all shades. Shaming people for their natural skin is wrong. No one should be forced to change their skin tone just to get a job. People will always talk...whether you change yourself or stay natural....it is best to be yourself.
I am glad she finally found the confidence to love her natural skin again.
