EFCC Arraigns Young Lovers For Allegedly Stealing N35.9m From Benefactor
The EFCC in Benin has arraigned 19‑year‑old Marian Elia and her 21‑year‑old boyfriend, Izuchukwu Uzoma, for allegedly stealing N35,920,000 from Mrs. Esther Ogbeifun, the woman who raised Elia.
Investigators say Elia had access to the victim’s phone and banking app and allegedly transferred the entire N35.9m into Uzoma’s UBA account, after which the lovers reportedly spent the money. They were charged with cybercrime, conspiracy and stealing, and both pleaded not guilty before Justice C.A. Obiozor of the Federal High Court. The judge ordered their remand at the Benin Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to December 7, 2026 for hearing.
