Nigerian Govt Reportedly Starts ₦50,000 Cash Support For Vulnerable Households

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reportedly started a new cash support programme for selected poor and vulnerable households.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced it on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The programme is called the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) and aims to help families cope with high food prices and the rising cost of living.
Eligible households will get ₦50,000. The minister’s statement described the payment as monthly and said it could be reviewed later if living costs change. Beneficiaries are chosen from the national social register and verified identity records. No one needs to apply, pay any fee, or go through agents.
Selected people will get a text message from approved providers (ALAT, MoMo PSB or NairaGram) asking for their consent. After they agree, the money goes straight into a mobile wallet linked to their phone number.
