Deji replaces Eze Ndigbo title with Onyedu Ndigbo in Akure

The Deji and the paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom, in Ondo State, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, Odundun II has approved the replacement of Eze Ndigbo title with Onyedu Ndigbo.

The Monarch also gave the current Eze-Ndigbo in his domain, Mr. Greogory Ilohehika a one month notice to accept the new title.

Onyedu Ndigbo simply means Igbo leader.

It will be recalled that sometime in 2015, Ilohehika allegedly disrespected the Akure monarch and this led to the banning of the Eze-Ndigbo title in Akure.

It was, however, gathered that the embattled Eze-Ndigbo had insisted in holding on to the title.

But a statement issued and signed by Deji’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Michael Adeyeye said following the plea from eminent Nigerians within and outside the state who had appealed to His Majesty to forgive the erring leader, the Monarch handed Ilohehika a letter to accept the new title.

‎The statement reads, “‎it should be noted that this is the new approved traditional title for any Igbo Leader within Akure and its environ.

“However, a month notice has been communicated to Mr. Gregory Ilohehika to accept this in good fate taking effect from the 1st of February, 2016.

“In view of this, Mr. Gregory has been advised to apply in writing for this new title if he is still interested.

“Failure to comply with this directive shall amount to rejection of the new title.

“In view of the possible rejection of the new title, the Igbo community shall produce another Leader from among at the expiration of the ultimatum.”

    1. The question is : Is the 'EZE' his birthright in a another man's land? Or can he claim the 'EZE' even in his own village?

It's not about being threatened, it's just to humble him and strip him of his arrogance.

    2. AGELESS T, u have a point there but visitors in other people's land, especially if they are in large quantity like The Igbos or Yorubas etc there is always a "Paramount Ruler" or "Chief" of that particular tribe in that "Guest land"

And many people and places recognise this.
So the problem is not with the title but with the name of the title. You get?

  11. Which land??? We can Neva move forward in this country except all these traditional titles and rulers are abolished, we are Nigerians and that is final.

  12. There are Ezeigo all over the world including advanced country like d US,Germany,England even China. They unite and provide leadership to their community in another land. They never advice anyone to disobey d laws of d land.
Why must it be abolished only in Yoruba land?
Ethnic Prejudice hatred and intolerance. Yet you are d same people that want one Nigeria at all cost.
We have seen in YouTube Yoruba people fighting + creating nuisance in London over leadership of a mosque. Why hasn't d mosque been demolished and all them mostly illegals deported back to homes in Osun,Ekiti,Ondo,Ogun,Oyo and Kwara state?

  14. The monarch should have left the ban. If they want titles, they should go pick them up from their hometowns.
