Reasons Jehovah's Witnesses Don't Accept Blood When In An SOS Situation

"Its a pity that Nigeria is still backward even in the medical field, especially now that Doctors around the world can carry out successful treatment without blood transfusion, even complex surgeries."

TIME FOR THE COUCH TALK/ARGUMENT

People can now choose between blood and bloodless treatment and its not a problem but only few doctors Nigeria can handle it.

There are sound medical reasons to avoid blood transfusions. More important, though, God commands that we abstain from blood because what it represents is sacred to him.—Leviticus 17:11;Colossians 1:20

The Bible’s answer

The Bible commands that we not ingest blood. So we should not accept whole blood or its primary components in any form, whether offered as food or as a transfusion. Note the following scriptures:

*.Genesis 9:4.( Only flesh with its life, its blood you must not eat.) God allowed Noah and his family to add animal flesh to their diet after the Flood but commanded them not to eat the blood. God told Noah: “Only flesh with its soul—its blood—you must not eat.” This command applies to all mankind from that time on because all are descendants of Noah.

*.Leviticus 17:14.(For the life*of every sort of flesh is its blood, because the life*is in it. Consequently, I said to the Israelites: “You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh because the life*of every sort of flesh is its blood. Anyone eating it will be cut off.”) God viewed the soul, or life, as being in the blood and belonging to him. Although this law was given only to the nation of Israel, it shows how seriously God viewed the law against eating blood.

*.Acts 15:20.(But to write them to abstainfrom things polluted by idols,+from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood.) God gave Christians the same command that he had given to Noah. History shows that early Christians refused to consume whole blood or even to use it for medical reasons.

"You may argue that the commands above may represent not eating or drinking blood besides transfusion is for a good course, "for saving life". But we could also look at it this way: If a doctor tells a patient to abstain from drinking alcohol, will it be wise for that patient to take the same alcohol in the form of a drip?" I will say no because it'll mean the same thing.

Jehovah's Witnesses seek the best possible medical care for their selves and families. When we have health problems, we go to doctors who have skill in providing medical and surgical care without blood. We appreciate advancements that have been made in the medical field. In fact, bloodless treatments developed to help Witness patients are now being used to benefit all in the community. In many countries, any patient can now choose to avoid blood-transfusion risks, such as blood-borne diseases, immune-system reactions, and human errors.

At one time, the medical community generally viewed strategies for avoiding transfusions, so-called bloodless medicine, as extreme, even suicidal, but this has changed in recent years. For example, in 2004, an article published in a medical education journal stated that “many of the techniques developed for use in Jehovah’s Witness patients will become standard practice in years to come.”*
An article in the journalHeart, Lung and Circulationsaid in 2010 that “‘bloodless surgery’ should not be limited to [ehovah’s Witnesses but should form an integral part of everyday surgical practice.”Thousands of doctors worldwide now use blood-conservation techniques to perform complex surgeries without transfusions. Such alternatives to blood transfusions are used even in developing countries and are requested by many patients who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses.

    1. Actually sir, a doctor can ask you to stop drinking alcohol but in life threatening situations, if alcohol can save you, that same doctor will give it to you as drip. That is common sense. What do you think the injection they give you before surgery to numb or make one sleep is made of?
Please go back and research then come back with a better argument cos this one doesn't make sense at all

    6. He said something abt when doctors ask you not to consume alcohol, will they put it for you as drip? No they won't! They will surely use some to sterilise your wounds and likewise their surgical equipment. U haven't consumed it, you have just used it as a steriliser. Just like blood, you have not consumed it as food, but you have used it health wise to boost your chance of survival. I'm sorry that we humans have a self preservation/survival instinct. If u don't, I'm sorry.

    8. Common sense become stupidity when we begin to rationalize clear commands from God and abstainance from blood is one. Will robbing a bank be viewed as common sense if one needs the money to save a child's life? Robbery is a crime, period!

Blood transfusion a clear violation of God's command to abstain from blood. This command was also repeated to Christians at Acts 15:20.

Obeying God's laws to the latter is COMMON SENSE. No wonder the Bible says the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

    3. @Anonymous 11.40, the word "testament" means "covenant" or "agreement". There was an old agreement based on our own deeds, and now there is a new covenant based on God's own deeds. The old agreement does not apply to Christians any longer. However, according to 2nd Timothy 3:16-17, all scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. That's why we can't yank off the old testament. All scripture is profitable. I hope this helps

  24. It is preferable if the doctors can operate without having to give blood to the patients. Blood transfusion can cause havoc to the receiver's body system especially in Nigeria where we don't have good screening machines. A late uncle received blood during a surgery. After the surgery, he fell seriously sick every other month and it was traced to the blood he received. He later died a few years later.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I concur. Complications usually arise even from screened blood when ingested into the body e.g ABO incompatibility. To play safe, try alternatives to blood transfusions which caries less medical risk & doesn't violate God's command of abstaining from blood. There are cell savage machines, hemodilution processes etc which can be used to perform bloodless surgery. That's all Chuks is trying to say. Too hard to comprehend?

  29. Stella, Nigerian doctors value money than anything else. They prefer to give blood because it is more profitable and less tasking for them.
When I gave birth through CS, the doctor recommended blood transfusion to aid my healing as my blood count was very low but my family kicked against it (we are not Jehovah Witnesses), they told him to use another alternative. He later started giving me a type of injection like that, the content was dark brown and very thick. I was also eating more of vegetables and fruits. Before two weeks, my condition improved and I healed well. So you see, it's laziness and greed that makes them recommend blood transfusion sometimes.

The point is God wants us not to take in to our bodies blood because,it is sacred to him.
God couldn't possibly have mentioned transfusions as at that time but the principle of 'Don't consume blood or abstain from blood',is all encompassing.
The bible for instance doesnt expressly mention cigarettes but we know it condemns smoking because of the bible principle that tells us 'To cleanse our bodies from all defilement of the flesh'
Obeying God laws is always better than excuses and as the giver of life ,God has the final say and his ways will always be superior to ours.

What about taking medications orally of which some prefer and taking it through injection or drip (Intravenous IV)
At the end of the day, an individual gets the same effects whichever methods of consumption one chooses...
Same goes too with the issue of blood transfusion and eating blood... It's logical...

  52. Abstain from blood means do not shed the life of another human being because the blood is sacred being it is God's not man's. People donate kidneys and hearts to save other people's lives, is there any difference with blood donation? The bible says get wisdom and get understanding, wisdom is from God understanding is obeying God's word and the only way is surrender unto Jesus and the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth. Never read the bible and think it is as it reads, there's more meaning to every word than what you're reading it takes the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning of what you're reading. The bible says the kingdom of God is not of meat and drink but of righteousness which is only through Christ Jesus. So if like obey the Law old testament or receive grace which is Jesus na una sabi. He says not those who call me Lord Lord or have repented or follow strict doctrines according to their fleshly works but only those who do will of his Father in heaven. Shikena

I took my time to read through all the comments and I was amazed. Not a single one of you who supports blood transfusion quoted a scripture from the bible, not a single person. Are you wiser than God? If U are so sure that taking blood transfusion is ok by God, why not use the scriptures?
I am not surprised, after all Jesus made it clear that Broad & Spacious is the road that leads to destruction, and many are the ones passing through it. (Matt 7:13)
Are U surprised by the overwhelming majority insulting JWs and who think "Transfusion" is ok thereby justifying it??? These same people have forgotten what Jesus said in Mattew 16:25:"For whoever wants to save his life* will lose it, but whoever loses his life* for my sake will find it." (Read also Mark 8:35)
Please take Ur time to read all cited or quoted scriptures in your bible again. That was why Abraham was ready to sacrifice ISAAC knowing fully well that Jehovah the life giver could resurrect him or even give him another son. That is "FAITH" in action.
Lesson from Jesus: "Obeying God's Law is better than Sacrifice" - Its not about sentiments, neither is it about us "Trying to SAVE our lives", but its about what God wants & Approves.
So before U start ranting & insulting, maybe U should take your time to do some research and come up with constructive reasonings especially based on the bible.
You all will rather listen to the Pastors & Bishops who will tell you what you want to hear (Read 2Tim 4:3) and allow you do whatever you like so all of you can keep coming to church and enriching them by paying tithes. ()
If Jesus had been alive today, these same set of people (You know yourselves) will think He is insane and would be part of those who will stone him to death for saying something "they don't want to hear" like "ABSTAIN from BLOOD". Jesus warned his followers that the world would "HATE" them, especially if you don't Agree with their ideologies, the evidence is clear here. (Read John 15:18, 19)
Back to the matter on ground, obviously the majority are not interested in thinking, let alone reasoning, but lets see if some of you will give way to humility & common sense or what is called "Intellectual Honesty" for better understanding.
BLOOD represents "life" and is unique to each person just like a finger print, hence, the one who gave life said in simple terms as stated Leviticus 17:14: "For the life of every sort of flesh is its blood, because the life is in it. Consequently, I said to the Israelites: “You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh because the life of every sort of flesh is its blood. Anyone eating it will be cut off.” (or Destroyed).
In Acts 15:20,29, the Greek word for Abstain means "avoid", "keep yourselves from", there were no exceptions at all. "Abstain from Blood".
So for the records, all who fear God would avoid taking "BLOOD" in any form, not only in obedience to God but also out of respect for him as the Giver of life.

    1. Didn't the same God forbid human sacrifice?
Why did Abram attempt to obey him when he asked for Isaac

  54. I had to go check the meaning of ingest in the dictionary, anyways the best is for them to have their own hospitals and doctors so they can kill themselves whenever they please and spare us the non-JW such headlines.

  55. this is a free world and free religion doctrines. the fact that some JV have premarital sex and some other forms of sin does not make all of the same. Allow them to continue with what they believe.
we have to respect peoples believe and doctrines

  56. My understanding of those passages is that you should not eat blood which is why you let the blood bleed out of the animal when killed. This is also the reason why some only eat halal meat (the animal is hung till all the blood is drained out). Witnesses do not insist on halal meat like some Muslims do and buy regular factory processed meat/meat not bled out so this doesn't make sense. Anyway Salvation is personal so to each his own.
