Senator Ibikunle Amosun, The Likely Consensus Candidate

As the nation countdowns to the primaries of the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a season of surprises might be in store for avid political watchers.

The news coming out of the nation’s capital points to the distinct possibility of a last-minute surprise ticket for the APC that comprises the duo of Senator Ibikunle Amosun erstwhile governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun Central at the national assembly and an unnamed northern governor.

The rumor seems to be gaining currency as some influential personalities are dropping hints of the real potential of this happening contrary to many predictions in the recent past.

The last-minute deal-making and horse-trading that usually attends political party conventions and Presidential primaries seem to have been taken to another level with the rumour of Senator Amosun’s possible emergence which will undoubtedly change the permutations in political circles if the rumors ring true. Add to that the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari’s body language seems to be edging toward the party settling for a possible consensus candidate; all bets seem to be off, and the stage set for a surprise of biblical proportions.

The Senator, a known ally to the hierarchy of the party and indeed the Presidency, is being tipped to present stiff opposition to perceived frontrunners like Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Rotimi Amaechi, Emeka Nwajuba and indeed Senator Ahmad Lawan, the senate president who seems to be the lone standard-bearer for the north in the APC Presidential contest.

With the primaries of the two major parties coming up this weekend, the stage seems to have been set for major upheavals and the upturn of the proverbial applecart.

  1. Surely, an ally of Buhari from their days in CPC before they merged with ACN to become APC.
This man here is as useless as useless can be. Ogun state had zero development all through his tenure, did construct roads and the few manageable ones road deteriorated. In the whole of South West I think Ogun state has the worse road. You don't want to know how much this state generates from all the companies and industries within its jurisdiction. Couldn't even get inspiration to work being that they're so close to Lagos and they witness the massive growth that takes place there. When you are leaving Lagos, by that agbado crossing, just as you pass the signboard 'goodbye to Lagos' you immediately enter a deep porthole that welcomes you to Ogun state, moving on you begin to try to escape more portholes scattered everywhere. I hope things have changed there now, or maybe it has become worse now..

    Shameful lots..

But Buhari is with Rotimi, being that he was the only minister who help him cover his shame, cos if not for the railway, there's nothing bubu would have been able to brag about, unless he's changed his mind recently

  2. I reject it for Nigeria. This is another Muslim fanatic claiming that his wife is a Christian. Na lie, she is a Muslim now. They will convert Nigeria to Amosun and wife Ltd.
It is the turn of a Christian .

  3. God forbid.
What did he do in Ogun state for the period of 8years he spent?
He only kept enriching himself and his family.
He can’t even win in his constituency let alone his state. If he’s APC’s candidate, the party will fail woefully.
