According to her story, her fiancé treats her with nonchalance and emotional abuse that has left her exhausted. Although he claims to love her, his actions keep making her question the kind of future she is about to enter. Their wedding has already been postponed twice. Each time she reached her limit and called off the marriage, but she still returned.
The reason she keeps going back makes the situation even more heartbreaking.
She is living with HIV, which she says she contracted from the same man. Instead of seeing her status as something that does not define her worth or ability to find love, she has allowed fear to convince her that finding another man who would accept her may be difficult. That fear has become stronger than her desire to escape the relationship.
She knows the relationship is unhealthy. She has walked away twice, yet the thought of starting over keeps pulling her back. It is a painful cycle — the relationship becomes unbearable, she leaves, the wedding is cancelled, and eventually she returns to the same man.
Meanwhile, he continues to profess love, even though his behaviour contradicts his words.
She is fighting two battles at once: an abusive relationship and the stigma she associates with living with HIV. Instead of believing she can still find happiness, she has begun to see her health status as something that limits her options.
But HIV does not make anyone unworthy of love, marriage or respect. With proper treatment, people living with HIV can live healthy, fulfilling lives, and an undetectable viral load prevents sexual transmission.
Her story is not just about a postponed wedding. It is about how fear, stigma and emotional dependence can keep someone in a relationship that is hurting them.
Sometimes, the biggest obstacle to leaving an unhealthy relationship is not the person standing at the door , it is the belief that there is nowhere else to go.
And for this lady, the hope is that she eventually realizes that her HIV status does not determine her value.
