53 Nigerians Detained In Goa After They Block Highway Over Death Of Fellow Nigerian.

                                                 Nigerians protesting

GOA IS A STATE IN INDIA.

53 Nigerians were detained late last night after a mob of about 200 of them blocked a National Highway over the death of a fellow national, prompting the Goa government to announce a major crackdown on foreign nationals living in the state without proper documents.

The mob blocked the Mapusa-Panaji Highway running through Porvorim village yesterday afternoon after allegedly ransacking the police hearse van that was carrying the body of the Nigerian, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds at Parra village in Mapusa near Panaji late last night, police said.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters that he had asked the police department to comb the entire state and locate Nigerians and other foreign nationals staying without visa and other documentation.

Mr Parrikar said that the murder was fall-out of a gang rivalry in the drug trade.

"We will also crack down on those involved in the drug trade extensively now. The action would be initiated in the next seven days and will continue in future," Mr Parrikar said.

He also said that the establishments including clubs, pubs and restaurants which entertain foreign nationals without proper documents would face criminal cases.

Admitting that there was a failure of police informer network resulting in lower detection of drug cases, the Chief Minister said, "Virtually for five years, when Congress government was in power, the network had gone defunct."

He claimed that in the last seven months the network has been built again.

Of the 53 Nigerians who were detained, those involved in the ruckus would be arrested and the documents of others would be verified, the chief minister said. Mr Parrikar conceded that a few locals brutally beat up two Nigerians protesting on the road, who were admitted to the district hospital in Mapusa.

"Locals who assaulted the Nigerians would also be booked," he said.

THIS IS WHY THEY ARE PROTESTING

A Nigerian was killed brutally in a group clash at Parra, Bardez, in what is suspected to be over drug trade in the coastal belt of north Goa.
Infuriated by the murder, several Nigerians are agitating demanding arrest of the assailants.

Police sources said that the attack took place in Parra (around 15 km from here), which is a hub of Nigerian activities for quite some time now.

A big gang descended at Parra where many Nigerians stay - in four and two wheeler vehicles and attacked a group of Nigerians with weapons. Some of the Nigerians were on bikes when they were attacked. One was hit with a dagger so severally that he breathed his last there itself. Five others were injured in the attack before the assailants fled from the scene.
Other Nigerians who rushed to the spot on hearing about the ghastly murder, refused the police to take the body for post mortem demanding that the assailtants be arrested first.

*Na wah, life is really not easy for some Nigerians in the diaspora!..God help my people!

    2. Nigerians are funny. You think you can just block the road anywhere and protest. It's a mentality that irks me. For example, if fees are increased the next thing is cries of aluta, roads blocked and vandalising properties. Nothing is ever done civilly.

  13. Ignorant nigerians, india isnt poorer than nigeria. India is part of the bric nations. A gathering that nigeria would love to join. India dwarfs nigera economically. Thats the gospel truth. All the economic indicators attest to india as an economic powerhouse. Your airtel is owned (bharti majority ) by india so are all your keke napeps. Nigeria is still wobbling economically. We are still trying to find our feet. Its unfair to compare nigeria and india. Its no wonder nigerians are flocking to india.

    1. Am a student in India, here there's no Asu strike, within 3yrs you have your degree, you receive a good certificate that is recognised world wide. The electricity is constant, internet, cable tv and food stuffs is very cheap, good road network and cheap. So many beautiful city n not to forget India is twenty times bigger than Nigeria, there's no basis for comparison.

  21. How much better off is India than Nigeria that Nigerians are going there? What a travesty that an oil rich nation citizens are going to places that are no better than theirs. If you must leave your place of resident, why not go to a better place than where you are at. I don't even want to go to India for vacation, to even think of living there..

  22. Nigerians should not be spoiling a beautiful place by selling drugs there. Those who do wrong get it back in some way or the other...
