Nigerian Police Is Jeopardising Case Of Pregnant Woman Assaulted By Lebanese Boss?

There are clear indications that police officers are working to undermine investigation into the case of Alexandra Ossai, the woman who was allegedly kicked in the stomach by her Lebanese manager, Kaveh Noine, causing her to lose her seven months old pregnancy.
When PREMIUM TIMES visited the Gracious Mercy Hospital in the Fagba area of Lagos, where she is currently receiving treatment, Saturday afternoon, plain cloth policemen were seen prompting the tired-looking and agonising woman to make statements, ignoring the concern from her lawyer that she is not in the right state of mind and too physically battered to talk.

It was observed that the police investigation seems uncoordinated with detectives from the Area F command and the Police X-squad working at cross-purposes. Mrs. Ossai’s relatives are suspicious that investigators from X-squad are trying very hard to exonerate Mr. Noine and his company, Toppan.
In fact, the original officer from Area F, simple identified as Jimi, has been detained for three days after officials of Toppan accused him of collecting bribe from Mrs. Ossai to portray the case in her favour.

He tearfully denied ever collecting money from Mrs Ossai.
“I did not know the complainant nor the suspect. All I did was to state the fact of the case. These people are just using their influence to punish me for saying the truth,” he was overheard telling a relative of Mrs Ossai in Yoruba.

The frail-looking Mrs Ossai, who is in need of better medical attention claimed she was ordered to report at the Glorious Mercy Hospital by the policemen to write a statement who ignored all her pleas of being too weak to do so. She also claimed that officers were prompting her on what to write in her statement.
“I don’t know if that was right but they were telling me what to write. They also ordered me to disclose my mother’s address but I refused to do so for my safety,” she said.

she also fears the police might intimidate the doctor to issue a report that does not state the true details of the injuries she suffered.
Her fears may not be unfounded.
Two weeks after the emergency surgery, the hospital is yet to issue a medical report. Shehu Abdulkareem, the doctor of the  clinic said the medical report would be ready when the surgeon who conducted the emergency surgery returned from his trip before the end of the year.

“With what I’ve seen so far, I’m afraid that the investigation might be jeopardised. In this country you don’t trust the police. If care is not taken all the evidences might be swept under the carpet. It is glaring that the medical doctor is afraid to say something about the medical report, which is a key evidence for us to pursue this case,” Erhuen said.

Lagos police spokesperson, Ngozi Braid, denied the police was plotting to jeorpadize the case..She says
“The police will never leave any stone unturned in making sure that justice is achieved,The Lebanese has been arrested since Friday and is still in police custody. Meanwhile, investigations are still ongoing.”

Throughout the encounter with the police at the hospital, Mrs Ossai was in immense pain. She talked in whispers with a permanent grimace plastered on her face as she tried to endure the pangs of pains biting from the suture at her torso. At about 2.20 p.m., she complained of hunger stating she had not eaten all day.
She also appears to be in need of better medical attention as the Grace hospital is ill equipped to care for her. After waiting for more than an hour for her prescription all she got were some yellow paracetamol capsules.
“I have been buying my medicine myself since after the surgery, I need help and nobody seems to care about me.”

Frustrated at the questioning from the investigating officer, she broke down after a while.

“I leave everything to God if the Police choose not to do the right thing. But as long as God lives, Kaveh’s offspring will end up in canals just like my son,” she said, sobbing....AMEN

mscheeeeeeew....Nigerian Police fear God oh!

    1. Apart from wickedness, greed is another major factor. Bribery and corruption has so much eaten deep into our system that they are willing to sell out their fellow citizen just for a few naira.

God is not asleep. He will fight for that woman and wrath of God that will befall that Noine (or whatever) will be so much that his entire generation will be affected.

  5. Shey you people were rejoicing at Rueben Abati's nonsense tweet.

The police have arrested Noine who assaulted Mrs Ossai. If Jimi of Area F has been accused of collecting bribe, I'm not surprised. That's the trademark of Nigerian police. If the Xsquad has now been called in to continue with the investigation, Mrs Ossai should cooperate with them. She should give her statement in the presence of her lawyer. How is it possible for the investigators to force her to say what she doesn't want to?

We are agitating for justice, how can you get it if you don't tell the investigators what happened? Your husband and family members should a better job of making preparations for your food.

  22. I've been following this case from the onset and haven't said a word because am waiting to see the end of it.

Now at this particular juncture, I dare say that if this case is treated shabbily and the barbaric Lebanese is set free without due justice, then I conclude that Nigeria is lawless and the case of a common man is hopeless.

For goodness sake, when does PPRO Ngozi ever agree or take up a case to ensure justice? Always in denial. SMH.

  24. All the claims about the police are assumption, let give them some time to do their job. Also, there is no verification that the doctor is scared to give a detailed medical report. It could cost his profession.

  28. Ok, this is officially confusing from the patient's story. She's accusing the cops of trying to "force" her to another hospital but at the same time she's wishing to have better medical care. A detective (not an ordinary plain clothes cop) is detained for collecting bribe from her family; he denies ever being involved in the case. So how is it a whole detective is arrested for a case he knows nothing about? There's dis-harmony between area F boys and *XYZ* squadron boys with respect to the case...typical with our security system when oga on top takes interest so it's nothing new. Her lawyer has raised alarm on the cops insisting on getting her statement...I agree with him, she's in a depleted state, but if this statement isn't written on time the investigation lingers and cops get more blame. The delay in the medical report could be due to the hospital's gross inefficiency as she has noted. And finally, Ngozi becomes an able voltron. *Police have no flaws*. Typical. #Sidonlooktinz# till we hear more.

  29. I hate Nigerian police! I remember what they did to me when some cult boys robbed me during the period I was writing my fianl year exams at the uni. After writing my statement, they tore it and wrote theirs which was totally different from what happened and they were forcing me to sign it. I refused o, they started bullying me to sign it. I had to call my dad who is a lawyer, luckyly for me, he was in town. Immidiately my dad showed at the station, story changed, all of them started pretending. I was so mad!
I pray this woman gets justice. God please fight for her.

  30. This country is gradually and steadily sinking into an abyss.. No hope for the common man.

  31. Stella can we gather some small money to give her? The woman really needs help. And it seems she's not receiving it where she is. I will hate to hear she has passed on,because we know that that is exactly what enemies of progress will want- people like this Lebanese dog and his supporters! When she is strong and fully recovered then she will be in a better position to fight if she chooses, but health first. Please think about it, thanks.
What did we really expect from the police? Come on, for five Naira, some of them have sold theirs and all their families destinies, talk less of the five thousand(it's NEVER much) Naira this Lebanese animal will have greased their palms with, that Ngozi Braide included as well! Mtschewwwwwwwwwwww

  32. I've seen such things happen in the past. A case of a lebanese and a house girl, saying she was "malhandled" by the boss whereas she committed a heinous crime. The police came arrested her, took her to maroko police station, released her after stateents were offered. The next day the police came with a warrant for the man's arrest cos the said house girl was on admission at the general hospital in lagos, with staged injuries. I was a witness cos I was there from the beginning till the end. Before we throw punches on the foreigners do we really seek the truth? A lot of us live abroad, being the fact we are Nigerians living abroad, if a Nigerian commits an atrocity and its rubbed on all our faces how would we feel? Stella I'm asking you this question cos you are there. Like I said let's verify all these Nigerians/foreigners stories before we begin to slander people. In as much as we have dirty Lebanese living in Nigeria we all know what some dirty Nigerians are capable of. Stella FYI this guy is not a Lebanese, he's ARMENIAN. Please post.

    1. The only sensible comment so far? Why is she refusing to give a statement, preempting the content of the medical report? You would have expected she would be in a hurry to speed up investigations. Since everyone is claiming hatred for lebanese people, he's automatically guilty.

In every organisation in this country there are some pockets of bullshit happening, not only in the police. Our constitution needs to be restructured 4 the common man on the streets. 4 god's sake there are people been paid below the minimum wage in this country and we should quit saying 'God' will help us,for he said in his word 'he has giving us dominion over every every'. Come to think of it,we are about 170 million in population and just 1% is holding sway in this country. Come on!. Are we under a spell?.
