10 Year Old Boy Who Works Menial Jobs To Feed His Blind Grand Mum.

The boy lost both parents when he was just a nine-month-old toddler, and when he was four years old, his maternal grandmother who used to care for his, lost eyesight.
He now has to do various menial jobs to provide for the two of them.

Mrs. Margaret Ajayi, the grandmother, says Bakare's late mother had a twin sister who lives in Orita-Obele in Akure with her own family. What is more, younger and elder brothers of Bakare's father live in Odo-Ijoka in Akure, but the elderly woman could not remember the addresses.
Family members, relations and friends of Bakare's, after providing some assistance at initial stage, now ceased doing so.
The pupil of Saint Benedict Primary School, Akure, said that when it became evident that assistance would not come from their relations and friends, his grandmother adviced him to look for a job.

"Mama advised me to go out and look for menial jobs at food canteens so that the little money they give me will be used to feed both of us, but she advised me strongly not to steal anybody's money.

"She weeps anytime I come back from school and tell her that I am going out again to look for what we will eat. She is always complaining that I am too young to be passing through this trauma.
"But I always reply her that I don't have any option since my parents' relations and families have abandoned me to my fate and I must survive and I don't want to steal, so I do tell Mama to leave me and pray for me.

"If I don't go home with money, Mama will not eat. Mama is blind and she cannot do anything. Sometimes, some people in our house pity us and give us food but not always.
"When there is no money and food, I find a restaurant and help them to wash plates, they pay me and give me food."

The boy says he would sometimes beg for money, but he doesn't always go far to bring his grandmother something to eat, "even if it is garri."

When asked how he manages to go to school, he said an Akure-based human rights activist and lawyer Mr. Morakinyo Ogele is sponsoring his education.
"Daddy lawyer is the one that is helping me. He buys books and school uniform for me and gives me money. Most of the times, he is the one that gives me money that I take home to buy food for mama and myself.

"There are times that Daddy lawyer will not be in office, and we will be hungry at home. Times like that I just stay with Mama because there is nowhere to go and get money."
Mr. Ogele, an indigene of Ikere-Ekiti, confirmed that he had been helping the little boy for about a year. If not for the aged and blind grandmother, he would have sought police permission to take custody of the boy for proper care.

The activist said he picked interest in the boy when he saw him where he was washing plates in a restaurant. Moved by the boy's efforts, he decided to help the little boy by giving him money every day.

He also saddled himself with the responsibility of caring for Sehinde's academic needs.culled

  22. Hello Stella, I suggest that you get in touch with the lawyer and use your status and influence to see how readers can help in taking his grand mum to the hospital. For all we know she may be curable. Because the boy is a minor we'd need the lawyer or even their church to administer. Obviously his family members are not reliable. Please update the story with your findings so we can get involved. Cheers

The same useless law makers are busy marrying 10 year old girls and u ppl on these blogs are raving abt the anti gay bill that was just passed and signed by these same pedophiles. Out country has bigger issues that to same sex ppl f*cking in the privacy of their homes. The is so much poverty people are suffering, sick and dying from curable diseases. We have no healthcare system, no electricity, education sucks, bad roads no security and the list goes on.

  49. For those waiting to make big money before they start their humanitarian job, please you can start with the little you have. I started mine when I was unemployed, but by the grace of God I had a little to share. Later God blessed me with someone that also has passion for the less priviledged . Today, we have our education foundation we fund with the little income from both of us. We have never asked any 3rd party to contribute. What I am saying is that if each of us can pick one or two less privileged in our midst and cater for, the world will be a better place. Rose

  53. Stella let us know about the poorboy and his grandmother once you find them. Even those living abroad could help. I'm willing to do something. I am touched in my heart and I live in Europe. Do something please, set up a bank account so that we could raise money for grand'mum treatment and the young boy, provide something like a source of revenue for them. Together we can. Those of us who can not tranfer money directly to the account will be able to send it to the lawyer or someone reliable in Nigeria. You don't need to establish a foundation or NGO to start helping. This is good soil to sow into. The New year has just started, there are things that you're struggling to get, problems that you're battling to resolve but trust me instead of crying to God, He's saying to you" here is an opportunity for you to sow into the life of this young boy, help him build his future and I will take care of yours". I feel strongly in my heart that this boy is a source of blessings for whoever sow into his life. Let's do it!!! May God bless you

    ReplyDelete
  54. You are right dear,an avenue to sow into someone`s life in order for you to attain your next levels,i also stay in Europe and also willing to drop my widow`s mite from time to time, for those in Europe or in diaspora in general, pls World Remit has made things easier, google it,thats what i used this week in transfering money to someone`s bank account in Nigeria and i did it right on the internet, and the account is even a savings account, very cheap convenient and affordable, infact the recipient got an alert immediately,so its easier for us now,God bless us as we drop whatever he lays in our hearts for this poor boy,we would never be stranded.

  55. *Eyez filled with tears*......Stella...pls update on how one can help dis boy at least in a little way......God bless u ..little boy......it us well wit ur soul.......but it beats me how d woman's other children abandoned dia mother......if she dies today...dey will throw a big party..........and to daddy lawyer..God bless u for being a source of help already....
