Nigerian Girl Trafficked To Burkina Faso Found Dead


OH-MY-GOD!!!

Gift, a Nigerian girl from Edo State, who was trafficked to Burkina Faso has been found dead just a month after an investigative report exposed the awful conditions she and other Nigerian girls are subjected to in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.


Before her death, 18 year old Gift shared her story with a news reporter from Nigeria, who travelled to Ouagadougou on 12th January to unravel the booming human trafficking business in the landlocked country.


According to Gift, she got to Burkina Faso in April 2014 after travelling for three days with someone who falsely promised making her life better in Europe via Burkina Faso but she ended up working as a sex slave in ‘Bar Dancing Petit Ouaga’, a brothel in Toudoubweogo village in Ouagadougou.

During the conversation, Gift expressed hope that once she has paid the traffickers some money, she would be free to move on with her life but unfortunately Gift was found dead a week ago, a month after she granted the interview. 

'She died a week ago,  as many other trafficked Nigerian girls who have died there far away from their family members, and not close to their dream lives.' two activists said.

That's the only way they can curb them. At least if the passport issuing officers start to query them about where they want to travel to, why, and with whom, hopefully it'll make a difference.
