Women And Living With PCOS

This is a post for blog visitors living with PCOS.....I am getting too many mails about women who are confused about this condition and asking me to do a post so they can hear from others who understand them...

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age. Infertility is one of the most common PCOS symptoms. Because the symptoms of PCOS are seemingly unrelated to one another, the condition is often overlooked and undiagnosed.

Are you living with PCOS?Please discuss the challenges and everything we need to know.So many people are walking around with it and do not know....Are there are any physical signs to someone with PCOS?

Do some women look like men because of PCOS?There was a pic that went viral on twitter a few days ago and i had nightmares from it.couldnt tell if it was a man or woman or transgender...

What about mood swings?

Please step forward and tell us,i dont wanna read google,i wanna hear from you.

Whatever you are going through,God is on your case....It will end in praise!

  4. I was diagnosed with PCOS one month after I got married ( Imagine o). even though they said it was the mild case, I suffered weight gain, mood swings, I looked pregnant except that I wasn't. I had to be placed on pills to induce ovulation, then I had one period in maybe three months. its not a death sentence if managed properly. I had two kids in quite succession. it was not a fun experience but am glad it ended in praise.

Years later, d issue persists, I am married & haven't been able to conceive. Period is not steady, ovulation i don't know when. I ve been seeing a gyne & taking some drugs & injections. I ve also done a HSG. Now, my doctor says after this month, we'll have 2 induce d ovulation big time. I am praying & believing. I'll b 31 ds year. Mnyl, did I mention I ve bn putting on so much weight (14) and dealing with facial hair. My aunties ar always suggesting prayer places 4 me, saying it may b spiritual. I kno it is medical, but God can and will step into my case & do it for me.
Pls, those that testified that they bore kids, I need recommendations, doctors and all that. Thanks & God bless!

At least adolescents should be able to go to a doctor when they notice the aforementioned like acne, incessant weight gain and irregular period.. wow!!

And most times when you have all these symptoms,a doctor just waves it aside as normal growing up issue..or is there no particular test for it?????

  21. Was diagnosed with Pcos 2 years ago. I no longer see my cervical muscus during my supposed ovulation. In fact I don't even know if I do ovulate or not. My period nko? Very scanty at times, and at some other times heavy with pains. The funny part is that I do not exhibit any physical signs of PCOS like excessive hair or weight gain or the likes. My former gynae gave me clomid n HCg injection tire, no show. Another gynae told me it was hyperprolactinaemia, n placed me on brimocriptine(that medicine show me pepper no b small, infact I bwas lierally speaking in tongues), still no show. Presently I'm on fertility blend and folic acid supplement, and backing it all with prayers n faith. This is onme condition I do not wish even for my worst enemy. May God help us all.

  24. Living with PCOS hasn't been easy. My primary symptom was dysfunctional uterine bleeding which in plain English is uncontrolled menstrual bleeding that could only be stopped by drugs. This started just before my eighteenth birthday and I suffered for three years before the gynaecologists at UBTH diagnosed PCOS after several blood tests and a scan of my ovaries.
From weight gain to depression and anger, it's only been God's grace holding me up. Sometimes my periods are normal- about five days and other times I can't even sleep on a bed because the bleeding is so terrible. Imagine being afraid to cough or sneeze because they cause a rush of blood. And you think... which man will stand by you when he wakes up in the morning to see the floor wet with blood because of the surge of blood that comes when you stand up in the morning and your super ultra pad plus tissue paper are soaked through. Then you remember that infertility is one of the cardinal problems with PCOS and marriage looks unattractive.
For those who suspect they have the condition, go and see a gynaecologist. The tests are slightly expensive but you'll know for sure and can start some of the important lifestyle modifications.

    4. I was diagnosed with PCOS late 2013,I wasn't ovulating,my once smooth face got invaded by acne, my period can stay for like 3 months without showing and when it eventually shows, it's like someone forgot to lock a tap, it just flows and flows nonstop with BIG clots, one time it went on for 2weeks, doctor asked me to take Primolut N, when ever I stop, the period comes back 2days later , then the doctor asked me to take Primolut N for 21 days and 5 days break for 3months and this normalized the period. After that I started taking Metformin(glaucophage), I helped myself and started eating healthy, removed rice, white bread, yam and Irish potatoes from my diet and other things and replaced them with healthier substitutes, started skipping...I didn't even know when I started ovulating again and took in... by the grace of God my baby is going to be 4months in a week and she's the cutest Lil munchkin ever! It was a really trying time for me, I thought it would never end but all glory to God it ended in praise.

  27. I was diagnosed of PCOS about 2years into my marriage.
I am slim and tall, I don't even have enough hair let alone excess. I am very ladylike...I mean "ladylike".
My period has never flinch(ed), always on time kinda period.

So you can imagine my shock when I was told I have PCOS.
I started medications immediately, achieved ovulation in the first month, no pregnancy.

Second month and then the third. Still no pregnancy.

I was asked to bring my hubby. Then we discovered the (new) problem is from him.
We started treating his sperm issues for 6months, no headway. He lost a lot of weight, always thinking, wasn't eating /sleeping well.

One day he woke up and said he wants an IVF.
Seeing that my husband was now a shadow of himself, I agreed to whatever he wanted.

    I conceived/gave birth to triplets. 2boys and a girl.

I strongly advise women to also check their husbands, if his sperm is slow or something, due to the induced ovulation/ ovulation window and stress of timed sexual intercourse, you guys ight keep missing it.

    In all, it wasn't easy.
My major problem was just mood swings.

  28. Was diagnosed of pcos in 2011 WHILE TTC. I googled more about it and almost died from the stories I read online. Was depressed but then I VIOLENTLY kicked it away with prayers. Can't tell really go into details all I did prayerfully and by faith and the sacrifices I made and before I knew it, I had a dream where I went to my pastor with baby cloths for prayers. After I woke up and gisted DH, He suggested we go meet our pastor physically and he just prayed a simple prayer and told us to go and bring forth our Shiloh babies... after that encounter, my ovulation came out twice within one month cos I always tested with ovulation test kits and it read positive two different times within a month and I made sure I made love at those times. Made sure penetration was deep cos I didn't want stories so the sperm can swim well to meet d egg. After that, a month later I used pregnancy kit from clear blue. The one that spells out PREGNANT if it's positive, oh Stella you can't believe how hard I jumped and shouted in excitement seeing those letters. I had to even snap it. E remain for me to enlarge the photo hang for my parlour. Now I have 2 lovely cute kids and expecting the 3rd. Overall, it's not a death sentence. You can still have your babies. I didn't have the acne, hair weight gain thingy. It was just irregular periods and the scan that confirmed it. But GODWIN

  29. Hi lovely ladies. PCOS is indeed very frustrating to deal with, especially its side effects. It is a condition that needs to be managed, whether or not you are trying for a baby. You can find a community of PCOS ladies here http://thefertilechickonline.com/groups/pcos-girls/, and general information about the condition here http://thefertilechickonline.com/pcos/. And if you're not sure whether or not you have the condition, you could do the PCOS Test here http://thefertilechickonline.com/the-pcos-test/

Wishing you all the best, ladies. I also suffer from the condition, but today I have beautiful twin girls. It will end in praise for all of us, by God's grace!

  33. PCOS...hmmm,its not easy dealing with this syndrom. Some ppl have mild cases(those in this group can conceive without any medical help) while some have serious cases(this involves the use of drugs, injectables,IUI n finally IVF). My period has always been erratic,on this month n off the next. I thot it was smtn that cld b easily correctd wen I am set 2 hv kids but wen I clocked 23 or so,my period developed a mind of its own. It will not come 4 months n wen it shows eventually its lyk a 3rd world war 2 me personally as the flow na die. I wil double sanitary towels n change within 3hrs. This wil cntnu for 4days and ebb away on the 5th day. Wn I met my husband,I told him my condition straight up and d possibility of not hvn kids bt d man stuck by me. We visited hospitals 2geda even b4 marriage n I must confess he was my spine,he was wt kept my sanity. My case was compounded with prolactinoma hence I was placed on drugs( metformin glucophage n bromocriptine parlodel for the high prolactin level). After marriage,I included clomiphene citrate which made little or no difference. 5mnths later,I started injectables still ovulation no gree. My doc was lyk d last resort is IVF,d day he told me I cried n cried but my hubby was lyk cmon babe cheer up. Dt month d doctor gave up on me, I conceived. It was lyk a dream, unbelivable. D doc ws sceptical,he tot it ws a chemical pregnancy n insisted I do a 7wk scan 4 viability n confirmation. During d scan,it ws discovered that I was carrying TWINS. To God b d glory,I gave birth 2 two beautiful n healthy boys.I had them exactly 2years after marriage and they ar 2years now. D period is still crazy bt I am getting ryt back on dt horse n gunning for baby no. 3 lol. I am just 29 so I still have healthy chances. So cysters,hv faith. We all must be mothers as their is none barren. Just don't give up,pray without ceasing and have a good gynaecologist.

  42. Hi, I am also living with PCOS. I started noticing the signs more obviously about 12 to 14 years ago. I got my period later than most of my peers. the pains are better now as over the years I have learnt what works for me.I am 33, I have lost relationships because of my condition and I still have self esteem issues.
I exercise even though weighloss is a herculean task. I have a hairy chin and hair removal creams are a remedy. As much as I try to show a strong side, the stigma of being a woman with facial hair is really challenging. I am dark complexioned so its only obvious when you are close up.I have tried weight loss for years and years but little result is recorded.
Medical attention for PCOS in Nigeria is expensive and most just tell you nothing can be done. I think more Nigerians need to be aware its a serious medical condition that has infertility as part of its effects. we ought not be treated lke freaks or society rejects because most of us have an athletic build, have facial hair and can't seem to loose weight. for my fellow "cysters" I say, lets educate the people around us, lets not be ashamed to share our fears with loved ones and seek proper medical advise if you have the means. eat healthy, exercise, make a life style change and most of all Love yourself.
You are fearfully and beautifully made.

    1. Yaah if u are base in Nigeria it will b very difficult to follow up with paleo diet. .... stop sweet potatoes and white rice, also stop drinking green tea cos there's coffe in it. Stay away from alcoholic, and mineral eg coke, fanta or sweet juice. I make my juice at home myself. ...stop all junk food. Stop using groundnut oil to cook instead use red oil or olive oil/coconut oil. eat walnuts and Brazil nut. .. a hand full of walnut and 5 seeds of Brazil not is ok per day. Drink at list 1litre of clean water everyday. ..... my dear stop eating fried meat don't even fry dem to cook. Stop eaten beef, egusi, bush meat, stick with fish and chicken! Say no to eba, pounded yam, starch, u can replace dem with wheat and plantain flour or cocoyam floor. Eat alot of salad but please don't use salad cream, I use olive oil and salt for my salad. ..... eat alot of okro soup and vegetables, ....

Try to do dis every morning. Immediately u wake up, chew raw garlic in an empty stomach. After like 20 minutes squeeze half lemon in a glass of warm water den drink . Do dis for at list 1month.

There are things/food selected for pcos diet but I don't think u can get dem in Nigeria. All in all always try and exercise everyday even if its for jst 1hour.........

  45. I'm currently living with pcos as well, I was diagnosed when I was 22. I'm 25 now. I recall not seeing my period for 3/4 months and I had to go and see a doctor thus the diagnosis was made. My doctor advised I go on bcp(birth control pills) probably to balance out my hormones and keep my cycle and periods regular until I'm ready to concieve as he made it clear to me that conception might be an issue if this routine is not followed. 46. Wow, reading all these comments, it is nice to know i am not a FREAK. crying every night for 2 straight weeks because i thought i was done for.
Doctor told me i need to have kids before i am 30. i am 29 now. DO THEY PLUCK MEN FROM TREES AND MARRY?
I had always had irregular periods right from time, it was always came, ran for 7 days. there was a year i only saw it 4 times the whole year.
Last year May, i lost my father. i did not see my period till September, i thought it was an emotional thing so didn't pay attention.
this year, i saw it in march but it was scanty, nothing on the pad but when i clean myself, its all there.
So i decided to see a doctor, doc said he thinks its PCOS. i was like what? what does that even mean. so i did a hormonal test and vaginal scan.
my hormones were fine, no irregularity but the scan showed cysts around my ovary.
Doctor said if my hormone levels are normal, im already halfway okay. all i need to do is exercise and i will be 80% cured. OH, did i mention i have been bleeding for 1 month, 2 weeks and 4 days. most uncomfortable experience of my life. my seat partner is a guy and always wonders why i am so uncomfortable.
Imagine a doctor using a textbook while talking to you because he is confused at what is going on.
So i have decided to beat this thing myself, gotten rid of anything and anybody who will stress my self, eat cucumbers like they are Godsents and super concious of everything i put in my tummy.
loosing the weight is so hard, so so hard but you need to take a day at a time.
i take PANFOR every night, have been taking it for like 3 weeks, prevention for the insulin resistance.
Ladies, Doctors will tell you what they can tell you medically.
that you can not give birth
that you may have to have surgery to remove your ovaries
that you may this and that.
But you need to believe in your God and yourself.
    Lets fight this thing together
