  16. There is no tiger that cannot swim. Tigers swim by far faster than any human.

  17. 180 degrees : 90 degrees
    (tiger) (dog)
If d dog swims the opposite direction to the tiger (radius 90 degrees), the tiger will have to go 180 degrees (semi circle) to catch d dog

  18. Represent the Tiger as T
    Represent the Dog as D

The swimming pool is it rectangular or circular, ehnnn Stella Nwunye Korkus?

Where is d swimming pool located?

    Germany or Nigeria?

  20. There are two things involved; either this puzzle is completely flawed and unsolvable given that we don't know if the swimming speed of the dog equates the running speed of the tiger(or if the tiger can actually run faster to compensate for more distance in less time) OR I will 'attempt' to suggest my answer based on several assumptions on info not given.

Approach 1; Imagine the dog is in the middle of the circular pool (you can draw it out if you want). where is the tiger relative to the dog? Well, it doesn't really matter since its a circular pool, regardless of what "edge" the tiger is standing, all still join, it will be at equidistant to the dog.

Approach 2; the distance the dog will swim to any edge will also be the radius (R) of the pool. Now assuming the dog will always swim in a direction directly away from the tiger, it means any direction the tiger chooses to pursue with will be equal to 'half the circumference' of the pool which is 'πR'.

Approach 3; it means the Tiger has πR distance to cover, while the dog has R to cover. which means the Tiger has approximately 3 times more distance than the dog. since 3 is the rough value of π.

Approach 4; What is the maximum ratio of running/swimming speed? This is where one runs into trouble trying to solve this. Speed is a function of the distance covered divided by the time taken. To correctly answer this, how about we look for the minimum ratio of speed (all things being equal)needed for the tiger to catch up and eat the dog? Firstly then, Speed=Distance/time. if tiger catches up with the dog, we must "assume" they arrive at the same time on shore. meaning time for both is same=t. Therefore swimming speed for dog=R/t, running speed for Tiger=πR/t or 3R/t. The ratio of the two speed then becomes 3, assuming time of arrival (t) on shore has to be same.

Approach 5; Since the puzzle says the dog swims ashore before the Tiger gets to it, it means the tiger must operate at a speed less than 3 times that of the dog. it means the maximum ratio is 2 for the dog to escape! and the strategy is to swim away in a direction opposite the tiger and gerrout of dia.

    Distance
    Velocity and others all join.

  22. As far as the tiger can't swim, it can't the dog

  23. Let the dog swim in the opposite direction to the tiger.

And once the Tiger starts running round the circumference of the swimming pool to where the dog is headed, the dog knowing the Tiger can't jump into the water, should make a sharp spiral turn to the point the Tiger took off from.

Let the dog maintain a spiral radius of p=3.146
And it will scale the edge of the swimming pool and take off.

The floor will be wet from the water he shed and Tigers don't allow wet claws, so the Tiger is gonna watch the dog run away.

  25. The only thing I know is that a circle I s 360° .

    ReplyDelete
  26. The maximum ratio is one. Since the dog is at the center of the pool. The shortest distance will be the radius. The shortest distance for the tiger to the dog is also the same as the radius. But when the dog swims, the distance it swims is the radius but not for the tiger. At the same speed the tiger swims one forth of the circumference of the pool which is more than the radius, letting the dog get away
