Police IG Urges Doctors, Others To Assist Accident, Gunshot Victims Without Police Report

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has urged medical personnel and members of the public to attend to accident victims and persons with gunshot injuries without requesting for a police report prior.

He however noted that the police should  be informed for necessary action after attending to them.

He explained that the call is necessary due to neglects and untimely death of victims following fear of being implicated without Police involvement.

The Police High Command also ordered its Officers not to harass good Samaritans in this regard, but endeavour to elicit correct facts in relation to incident from them.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Force Spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu.

The statement read: “Doctors on duty are equally duty bound to treat victims of gunshot wounds and further inform Police of relevant facts. The safety of Nigerians is a collaborative effort of all and sundry.

“Police therefore, enjoin citizens not to relent in their cooperative attitude in ensuring safety of all. While they are also to report any suspicious person or persons to the nearest Police Station.”

    3. They won't listen o. I remember Fashola passed this law over 4years ago when many lost their lives because hospitals refused them treatment without a police report. So many people that were shot by armed robbers who should have lived, died back to back in the past years... I think it's wickedness. Even if the person is an armed robber, at least treat him first before seeking for a police report. Hopefully Arase would change the face of the Nigerian police force. The rot in the force is too much.

  4. This should be the best news in recent times. Innocent lives have been lost due to this ancient & barbaric rule/law. For repealing it, the IG becomes our 'Man of The Month'.

    1. Finally. I wonder the IG that made the initial pronouncement criminalizing treatment of gunshot victims without police report. All these police pronouncements wey nor get force of law e.g tinted vehicles et al

    2. Arase has been making a lot of positive impact since becoming IG. Infact I'm beginning to see and feel a lot of change in the entire country... government parastatals aren't left out of the change move. In another two years we'll be on a whole new level.

  12. Eka joy, dont you sound stupid? Lock them up and throw away the keys, maybe you will become a doctor overnight to take care of patients when all the doctors have been lucked up.
Your illiterate self didnt know that it wasnt the doctors that made the law in the first place. Let them pass the law to that effect if they are serious.
People like you just stay online and rant as if dotors are the cause of your ill mental state.
