Anglican Church Bans Brides From Wearing Tube Gowns At Weddings

The Anglican Archdiocese of Enugu has banned brides from wearing tube gowns at church weddings. The law also extends to women who wear tubes to churches, wedding receptions and services.

This was revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday, March 14, by the Archbishop of the Arch-Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma.
The Archbishop said the ban was enforced to ‘restore moral chastity on persons, especially women, who attend such functions in the Church.’

It was gathered from the cleric that a directive has been given by the Arch-Dioceses to priests and clergymen to inspect wedding gowns of brides before their big day.
Chukwuma also added that using veils to cover topless wedding dresses has been banned in all Anglican churches in Enugu state.

“I have directed ushers and wardens in various churches in Enugu to ensure that no topless dressed girl, lady or women enters into the Church under any guise. “
“Whether it is the Church wedding, reception or any other program celebrated in the church or within the church premises, “ the clergyman said.

“We would collaborate with the governors’ wives to organize seminars and workshops for fashion designers in the zone for them to join this campaign.

“Fashion designers should be instrumental in dissuading our girls and mothers from the habit of wearing topless dresses, “ he added.
The archbishop said it was necessary for the church to enforce this law in order to ‘check sexual harassment and provocation, which leads to prostitution and rape in the society’.

*I dont Understand why this has to be enforced..I dont understand at all.

    3. You will go to church and see people dressed like they just left the club. Please dressing in church should be moderate. Yes look sexy and classy at the same time. You want to wear a short gown, at least let it be on your knee. Every occasion has its own dressing. Some people will dress to church the way they won't dress to work.. And you wonder why those pastors sleep with them. Why won't they?? Tel hey have bloods tuning their their veins not anointing oil please

    4. I doubt Pastor K and Pastor M can do the same when their so called sisters and close ones in church wear such to church gatherings... and besides how can a pastor's wife wear tube for photoshoot, which mouth will she then use to talk to the congregation, I'm talking about Pastor M here... but at the end of the day, who am I to judge, it's not a yardstick to make heaven...I used to be a member of the church till I got married and started attending my husband's church... how can you wear tube, monostrap, spaghetti and Co to church... Guys pls respect the house of God.I doubt all these pentecostal churches can enforce this type of law because they are all after money... #MyOpinion

I went for one wedding and was scared for the girl. I kept looking at bobbi and praying for it not to jump out.

I don't even wear armless clothes so I can't be caught wearing a wedding dress that will expose my body.

Every religion has its rules and regulation. If you dont understand make ur research or keep quiet.
Nowaday, people expose their breast, armpit and the rest at the altar of God all in the name of being posh and sexyor its my day. When you come to the altar of God for wedding, one has to cover up. The mass for wedding doesn't take much time atleast may be like 2 hrs or less. Then after that, if they decides to go naked, then thats their business

Its not a new thing. When i did my wedding at st cyprian oke oba. They inspected my wedding gown up to like 2times and i have to make amends or wear jacket. The church should be respected and decency should be applied in every thing. Why will a bride put on a wedding gown that exposes her breast to the altar of God without Jacket in the first place?

I like the ban.people should learn to dress and cover them selves up in the church/ altar of God cos the church is not a club house. Simple.

    2. Madam, did you read the part where they said the wedding dresses should not be covered even with a veil. As in, none can wear tube with a small shawl covering it, you can't even wear a gown that has a net clip on it. As much as I understand the whole thing, they need to take it easy. Caution people instead on the exposures. A bride can wear a tube dress and cover her mammary glands.

    3. They will go to the church naked, exposing their body parts or putting on tight clothes, they wont respect the church but in their working place they will abide by the companies ethics/rule of conduct. Its hardly you see bankers/lawyers exposing their body parts, because they have ethics and abide by it and thats why they are always on suit or coperate wears. So why wont people respect them selves in the altar of God. You can still look beautiful, sexy, posh, classy without exposing your body parts. if you try advising them, they will tell you that u dnt know whats up. Who whats up don help? Lets be sincere to our selves pls. Cuss me out. I dont care. I want to touch and save lives this year on this blog. People should learn how to dress decent and always do the right thing.

I remember an incident that occurred few years back when Ushbebe and his wife were getting married.. just because her mermaid gown, which has long sleeves has a little "O",she was asked to wear one of the robes of the choirs over the dress before they can continue with the wedding. The bride, Annette cried all through the exchange of vows. The bridesmaids were not spared also, they were asked to stay outside as they were wearing monostrap dress. My own was I didn't cover my head,so they gave me an hanky to do that. To think this girl only agreed to use the church because she wants to honor her parents, see how they disgraced her...

Of course it is true that all churches should do the same but some churches of course are business centres and are afraid if losing customers.

  47. Nigeria forever doing the most. Yes decency is important in the House of God and everywhere else. When will the Church start teaching men that no means no. Or the many men raping children and babies wearing diapers and flower dress will say the babies diapers make their bums look inviting and the flower dresses that little girls wear tempts them? You can't leave half of these brethren around very young girls because they act like animals...will we blame fashion too?
I wish our women would respect themselves and dress with sense but I also wish the Church would focus energy on the main issue behind rape...men who do not use self control. Regulate women's fashion from today till tomorrow nothing will change.

How many of you ladies were raped or almost raped before the age of 13? Is it your clothes that caused it or will someone come here and blame something else?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Christianity is a personal race, yes we agree and can be done from anywhere. If you choose to do your wedding in a church, pls by all means respect the doctrines and rules. The church of Nigeria broke out of the church of England bcos she didn't agree that gays be made priests. I am not an anglican by the way.

You can have a fabulous wedding dress without it exposing all your breast and distracting people. Let's do the right thing.
