Doctors In House Section..

Hmmmm whats wrong with CS?

ECV

Stella, please i would like you to put this in Doctor's in house, i am 37 weeks pregnant currently and my last scan showed my baby was breeched, the doctor has said if my baby doesn't turn considering i am far gone and its my first pregnancy, i might be booked for a C-section, which in all honesty i don't want.

I know there's nothing wrong with CS but i really don't want it due to some reasons that i can't pen here.

I went online and found a procedure called ECV or so, i would like to know if its practiced in Nigeria and the level of its safety. Mothers in the house who have been in my shoes  before please i would like to know of your experiences. what are the chances that my baby will turn? i am so worried right now.

    1. Why don't you want cs is it because of the money? I birthed my 2kids with cs and one was vaginal. But if i am to make a choice next time i will definitely choose cs cos i am comfortable with it and no stress cos my hospital is good at that and with insurance u will pay less. But to ur question. I think u need to pray, always walk around as in be lively, eat well and do ur normal thing. What will be will be. Ur utmost concern should be healthy mother and baby. Safe delivery madam. And dnt let anyone decieve u. Be wise.

  3. ECV had its own attendant risks. Read up and do your research.
What's wrong with CS madam? I understand your fears as per Naija but if you are registered under a professional then that should be fine.
Hope you are not one of those ignorant women who insist on the "natural way"

    1. When did u do the last scan.you can do another at 38wks or so to be sure if the baby is still breached. Except for the financial aspect which I still suggest u shld start sourcing for(if it is),then don't let ur labour be in vain o.choose a good hospital and have the caesarean done.there is nothing wrong with a caesarean, absolutely nothing

    2. Eeyah! I completely understand your fears, babies rarely turn after 37/38 weeks as a result of limited space in the mother's womb. There is absolutely nothing wrong with CS. Had a cs with my 1st - not sure it took up to 20mins, if I could I would choose selective cs 4 the 2nd by God's grace, fear not.

  6. Ok I don't know anything about ECV and have gone to read about it just like you. Woman be careful and do what your doctor suggest (CS).

    Read oo Read, madam Google.

"Babies who are still breech near term are unlikely to turn on their own. So if your baby is still bottom down at 37 weeks, your caregiver should offer to try to turn your baby to the more favorable head-down position, assuming you're an appropriate candidate.
This procedure is known as an external cephalic version (ECV). It's done by applying pressure to your abdomen and manually manipulating the baby into a head-down position. (If your caregiver is not experienced in this procedure, she may refer you to someone who is.)
ECV has about a 58 percent success rate in turning breech babies (and a 90 percent success rate if the baby is in a transverse lie.) But sometimes a baby refuses to budge or rotates back into a breech position after a successful version. ECV is more likely to work if this isn't your first baby.
Not all women can have ECV. If you're carrying twins or your pregnancy is complicated by bleeding or too little amniotic fluid, you won't be able to have the procedure. And, of course, you won't have a version if you're going to deliver by cesarean anyway — for example, if you have a placenta previa, triplets, or have had more than one previous c-section.."

    2. Massaging the tummy to force a baby to turn is nothing new!

I've heard a story about someone who did it but the baby's umbilical cord got Twisted around the baby's neck.

Reason why you have to be careful and make sure it's done by a professional.

    3. I had mine through the ecv,painful.
I don't know how experienced your doc is but cs isn't a bad idea too

  7. A chiropractor can help turn your baby, some midwives too can but make sure you seek a second opinion. Wishing you a safe delivery IJN, Amen.

  9. Noting wrong with CS,I understand you will go through alot of pain afterwards and end up with a big stomach, that's if you don't look afteryourself. But talking about the procedure it's safe.

  12. Your baby will turn before your due date, if that doesn't happen follow your doctor's advice. The Lord is your strength. Let us know how it went, when you deliver so others will learn.

  13. Madam relax your mind and let God take control

  14. She probably can't afford a CS as doctors charge an arm and a leg. If she had penned down lack of finance for her reason, some people will curse her and her hubby, tagged her a begger and call her unspeakable names. There is nothing as depressing as having a baby and being held at the hospital cos you can't foot the bills, it just makes a blessed situation into a depressing one. Please pray and ask for God to help turn your baby. Sometimes babies turn really late. All the best

  15. Madam am a doctor and iv hrd 2 caesariab sessions.we re all happy .no doctor in nigeria will offer u external cephalic version.if u want you and your baby to be alive,go for the cs.its pretty safe these days and recovery is good so far u do it in a good centre with experienced hands

  16. It will turn on its own in the next one week
    Say Amen

  17. Follow your doctors Advice madam and back it up with prayers.

  18. ECV has its complications, esp for a first timer....no room/space for manipulating the baby into the needed position. Besides the baby can reverse to breech almost immediately.... Both baby and mother may be lost in the long run. Madam, just respect urself and settle for C/S, it's much better.... So that someone won't send another "story" of a bv that died during childbirth!!! If baby still changes before then, good, but please, use ur tongue to count ur teeth....

  19. So u dnt want CS? Maybe u love pains.

  20. Dear poster, had my son two month early before the due date and I had Emergency operation, and thank God its went well and my boy is 12yrs now.I don't think you should worry about CS operations ,something its the better option.

    1. If u re healthy and hearty and also certified by ur doctor. U re free to get pregnant but also bear in mind that u have 80percent chances of going thru cs again. Contact ur doctor thou. A frnd got preg when her baby was 7mths and she delivered the baby via cs. Although she opted for it by her self. So body differs.

    2. If you are considering VBAC ( vaginal birth after C-section), then you have to wait at least 2yrs provided it's not because of CPD (cephalopelvic disproportion) b if not, you can conceive as early as your child is a year old. Good luck to you, from Dr OTJ.

  22. I wonder for some people o. What is wrong with CS? Is it your tummy being scarred or the money? You should have told us instead of us assuming many things.
My colleague had that ECV done with her first pregnancy and it was successful. She went to those ijaw women that rob. Its even as painful as labour itself according to her. It is also risky as it could lead to the rupturing of the placenta if not done someone who knows his onions. Please be guided o. It is safe delivery where the mother and baby are ok that we are concerned about.
If your doctor says you should have CS,then please follow his advice. I had my son at 37weeks when it wasn't even my EDD as the doc said I had higb BP and I had to be induced immediately. I didn't argue with him o. I just jejely went home to get my bag and viam,I was induced because I was more concerned about birthing a healthy baby.

If by nextwk, your baby didn't turn on its own,pls go for the CS. We await your goodnews. Congrats in advance.

  23. Make sure it's a certified GYNAECOLOGIST who does it. Go for the CS. Ecv Has too many complications.

  24. Madam start gathering money for CS. If the baby turns before delivery, fine, if it does not turn, pls go for CS in a good hospital. CS is very risky in Nigeria especially with quacks and ill-equiped hospitals everywhere, they kill babies and even mothers at will or damage the womb but there are some good ones, even some government hospitals, go to them. Your life and that of your baby should be paramount.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If its money, start running around now and sell things or borrow to save you and hubby from embarrassment, this can also save your life as some hospitals don't operate on pregnant women until deposit has been made. If its the scar, my dear, your baby is worth it, cover it up wit clothes afterwards, I also have one from my navel down to my pubic area.
You might also be scared that you may not be able to birth plenty kids, my dear, 2 or 3 kids are ok these days. If its becos of what people will say, turn a deaf ear to them, your baby is all that matters.

  27. Dear poster, my baby was breech too and was advised to go for CS cos I was a firstimer, yes I was scared infact so scared cos my mom died tru CS after having our last born... I remember my dad pastor calling me daily and rejecting CS for me lol... it was funny to me, all I Asked God all tru the pregnancy was safe delivery whether vaginal or CS and He did it. baby refused to turn at 38wks n I was booked for CS and all glory to God it went well, my baby is 6months now.

  28. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong wt a CS delivery. Trust me, I am penning ds down 4rm experience. The procedure is to ensure a problem-free delivery. A healthy baby and mother should be ur ultimate goal n focus. All the best, may God be with you and your baby.

  29. Nice response from concerned people. My dear ,you have no reason to fear as everyone has suggested. My two children were through selective C.S (no time) I chose Thier birthdays. Now to you that your Doctor advised you may likely be booked for C.S .
I beg you in the name of God not to add to bad statistics Nigeria already has on child delivery. Please consider C.S.

Except if you don't have the money and even if you don't pls say it out ooooh so you can get help and on time pls.

If you have the money please love you Self and consider your docs advice and pray about a successful surgery as well but please don't rule out C.S.
