Lecturer Who Was Called Out For Harrassing Student Tells His Side Of The Story And Begs For Story To Be Taken Down...

Following the news of student harassment by a Uniabuja lecturer that broke out yesterday, TheNews.NG decided to reach out to parties involved and spoke on phone with both Mr Samuel Olorunfemi Adam and Miss Kemi Obaditan.

Mr Samuel Olorunfemi Adams side of the story:
TheNews.Ng got a phone call phone Mr Samuel Olorunfemi Adams asking them to take the story they published down as it was affecting his image, He also stated that many of his colleagues have been trying to reach him on the issue which is very embarrassing.

Here's an excerpt of the conversation between Mr Adams and TheNews.NG's correspondent Olawale Adeniyi

Mr Adams: Hello, good afternoon my name is Mr Samuel Olorunfemi Adams there's a story on your news platform stating that I harrassed a student of Uniabuja. The story is all lie, please i need you to take it down I am innocent.

TheNews.NG: Sir, we can't take the story down just like that, its against the ethics of balanced reporting, we need to speak to the two parties involved to ascertain that you are truly innocent. would you be willing to tell us your side of the story?

Mr Adams: Yes

TheNews.NG: please tell us exactly what happened?

Mr Adams: On the day the incident happened, I instructed students to move the next hall to write their exam every other student moved but she refused. she stated that i was a wicked lecturer and that she's heard a lot about me and that she was not going to move in the course of that her phone fell and broke.

TheNews.NG: She said you broke the phone?

Mr Adams: Here's what happened, she asked me to give her the phone and i insisted that she fill the exam malpractice booklet, she refused, she insulted my family, she said my family couldn't afford a Blackberry phone, this got me angry, so I smashed it on the ground.

TheNews.NG: Did you flog her with your belt?

Mr Adams: No I did not, I only tried to scare her with the belt and the belt mistakenly touch her. Then she jacked my collar.

TheNews.NG: Why did you insist that she fill an examination malpractices form since the offence she committed was not related to exam malpractice?

Mr Adams: You see in exam there are rules and regulations, she was given the form because she disobeyed a lecturer and it is against the school rule. I instructed her to leave the hall and go to the next hall but she refused, secondly she held my collar and it was her fellow students who rescued me from her.

TheNews.NG: But that is still not exam malpractice, why insist on an exam malpractice form?

Mr Adams: keeps mute

TheNews.NG: Peradventure you both meet in the court of law over this matter do you have any witness in your favour?

Mr Adams: I don't have witnesses i don't know any of the students, please I just visited your website the story is still there, when are you going to take it down?

TheNews.NG: We wont take it down until investigations into the case are concluded.

Here's an excerpt of the conversation between Kemi Obaditan and TheNews.NG's correspondent

TheNews.NG:  Can you tell us exactly what happened?

Kemi: On the 11th of December 2011 i came into school that morning to write a Chemistry examination scheduled to hold that day at 9am. The exam started at the time stated and while I sat in the hall assigned by my department for her students, Mr. Samuel Olorunfemi Adams came in to speak with the invigilator on duty while the answer booklet was being shared. He requested that half of the students should follow him upstairs to the main library where his own students who, at that time, were going to write a statistics course so he can shuffle us between them. Unfortunately, I was among those who had to move up with them. When I got upstairs I had a chair and did not have a table in the exam hall, hence I decided to go get a table. By the time I returned with the table, Mr. Samuel Olorunfemi Adams refused my entry into the exam hall.
I told him I was among the students he took from the hall downstairs to join his students.
My pleas fell on deaf ears until one of my colleague was able to help me pass my exam booklet and exam card to me.

TheNews.NG: Mr claim that he did not flog you that he only scared you with his belt that you were the one who locked him by the collar?

Kemi: thats's a lie, while I was begging him he lost his cool and pulled out his belt from his pants and began to flog me mercilessly. how could I have fought a man bigger than me?

TheNews.NG:  He claims he broke your phone because you insulted him?

Kemi: Thats not true, because I refused to fill the exam malpractices booklet Mr. Adams told me to take a last look at my phone and he smashed it on the ground to pieces. My colleagues who witnessed the incident gasped and he made sure he gave all of them -10 marks on their script. I have witnesses.

TheNews.NG:  Did you reach out to the school authority on the matter?

Kemi: Yes, after the incident my father wrote the school up copying the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Student Affairs that he would like them to look into my matter. I came into school on a Monday
morning and I was told to report to the Deans office for an emergency meeting. In the meeting, there was the Dean, Head of department, Head of examinations and a few other lecturers. I was still not granted a fair hearing. Instead, I was told and I quote “We know you know people, and your Dad is well connected, but if you want to graduate in this school you cannot fight your lecturer and win. You have to drop this case. I walked out with tears in my eyes and my heart was heavy with much pain. I felt the school failed me, the women in the meeting failed me even with the obvious bruises I had on my body. Afterwards, I did agree to drop the case because I wanted to graduate. I was frustrated throughout my four years in the university.

TheNews.NG: What do you want now?

I want justice to prevail for the sake of innocent students like myself who are constant victim of abuse by wicked lecturers.

After speaking to both parties involved, there are so many questions begging for answers.
1) Mr Adam claim that he broke her phone because she insulted him, a claim she denied. Even if she did, was he supposed to smash her phone?
2) Mr Adam denied flogging her, in his word " i only tried to scare her away with my belt then it touched her" How true is this statement
3) Why did Mr Adams and the authority insist that she fill an exam malpractice booklet when the alleged offence had nothing to do with exam malpractice

This and more questions are begging for answers. The world is watching, justice must prevail.

TheNews.ng reportage.

*In the beginning he also said the phone fell down and changed it to he broke it when she insulted him.I dont believe the Lecturer. One needs to attend the four walls to see what these lecturers are capable of doing. They can break ones spirit with their wickedness and sexual harrassment .IT MUST STOP!

This man is a big liar,I graduated in 2014,I had a course mate that was tired of her lecturer man friend and wanted out, that was the beginning of her ordeal with carry over till she had extension and didn't graduate,I'm sure the man helped her with admision into the school cos their relationship started from predegree and in 100L,she got tired, some others paid this same man 8-10k to pass just his course,I don't blame parents that opt for Covenant University or other good private Universities.most lecturers will rot in hell.

    4. No rational being was in doubt after reading just the girl's side of the story that the lecturer is guilty. But both parties have gone wrong at different points in this incident. A good number of lecturers are NOT qualified by their behavior to be lecturers, students should be wiser and know that there exist stupid elements among lecturers. I'm a lecturer myself but one daily basis I weep for the system. A lot of us lecturers don't even know basic manners.

    5. The lecturer is obviously a he-goat. He's lying.
Now to the lady, why for goodness sake Did you have to wait for 5years before making this public? Have you graduated or are you still in. School because of this? Did you go to the US to start afresh because you coming to complain after 5yrs is almost like those Cosby women taking him to court after decades. Anyway, goodluck!

      Side note
Everyone should learn how to tackle things on ttime. Many of us were either molested or arrested by our lecturers, should we start a case now? You know how many brilliant people graduated with a 3rd class because of a wicked lecturer? Fight in the now people!

    9. This man is a liar. You would THINK that this man would say he asked her to fill a malpractice form BECAUSE SHE WENT TO GRAB A DESK, but no he didn't because it's obvious that at that point, THE EXAM QUESTIONS HADNT BEEN DISTRIBUTED yet (meaning the exam HADNT started). So there's no way he can say she went to look up answers to questions that she had spied from the question booklet. Rather he's opening his smelling mouth saying he asked her to fill the malpractice form because she 'insulted him'. I believe this babe. Whether it took her 5 years or 15 years, I'm happy she's speaking out.

Reminds me of what I went through in UNILAG. From that witch of a sub-dean in the faculty of Arts (can't even remember the wench's name) to randy lecturers. God sees all and your rewards (punishments) are coming!

He claims not to have beaten her, but he scared her with his belt ( does he think he's talking to children ) and the belt touched her collar. Who is he to even threaten a student with a belt? Does he think these are the dark ages?

He's not even smart, admitting such damning details to a journalist, he just shot himself in the foot.
    Thank God she has witnesses...

These lecturers just behave like they are gods and untouchable, imagine wanting her to sign a malpractice form when she did not commit an exam malpractice.

The most annoying part is that the school administration and other academics joined in victimising her instead of finding out the truth.

This is why Nigerians cannot 'buy naija to grow the naira' in the area of education. Will this girl send her child to school in this country after what she's suffered?
She'd probably start saving for her children's college fund abroad even before they're born.

  45. I witnessed a drama while travelling and trust me (an SDK trained aproko) to add petrol to the fire. This is the story of a certain Mr Kasumu of accounting department, Unilorin.
    I was on a journey and boarded the same vehicle with this young man and this man. Shortly after we commenced the journey, our car developed a mechanical fault so we had to stop to get it fixed. While waiting, I saw this young man (my seat partner) talking to the passenger sitting close to the driver. After a little over an hour of fixing the vehicle, we finally hit the road again. However, this time around my seat partner was murmuring somethings to himself, so I decided to pause my music to listen to what he was saying. When I did, he was cussing someone, so I asked;
Me: sup bro,if you don't mind my asking, are you okay?
Seat partner: yes I am. its just that stupid man sitting next to the driver nearly ruined my life but for God.
Me: *removes earpiece* eheen! Na wa o. Where did you know hom from?
S.P: he was my lecturer in school.
    Me: which one?
    S.P: University of Ilorin
Me: Gracious God! What could he have done to you? But I saw both of you talking earlier, sup with that, if you hate him so much?
At this point S.P goes on to give an account of his ordeal in the hands of this to the hearing of every single passenger including the mofo and trust yours truly to incite and encourage with innuendos et al.
According to S.P, some years ago he was admitted into the accounting program. So he had to go to him for course registration and other things. His problem started the first day he met him at his office when he(lecturer) accused him of being arrogant because of this dude's gait and the direct manner with which he spoke. To cut the long story short, the lecturer(Kasunmu) failed this dude and even influenced other lecturers to fail him. The only ray of hope showing he wasn't as dumb as his departmental failures painted him to be was he excelled in courses done outside his department. Dude eventually graduated with a third class and his parents who had been aware of his predicament since day one, sent him abroad for a fresh start.

    ReplyDelete
  46. While abroad he graduated with a distinction, currently possesses a masters and is chartered in UK and Canada. Whilst having had the opportunity to work in great places. Dude (S.P) even bragged that if Kasunmu resigned his lecturing appointment it would take him minimum of 5 years to get to his level. It will also take the special grace to work where he has worked talkless of going to places he has been opportuned to be.
Me: Wow! Never pray for your enemies to die o, instead pray God keep them alive to see a day like this. Na wa o, some people are really wicked. Just look at him. So what exactly were you guts talking about earlier?
S.P: the stupid man walked up to me and said my face looked familiar. So I said yes it does and kept quiet. Only for the foolish man to say, where could I have known you o...
Me: Imagine, kai! Just look at...
S.P: after some seconds asked, Ilorin? I said yes. The lecturer then said ehen! With a smile. Then he asked again Unilorin? I said yes. At this point, he asked accounting?
Me: *quickly interjecting* what did you say, what did you say?
S.P: I said yes. At this point the man with a frown asked, do you know me? I said yes now, are YOU NOT KASUNMU? At this point the man walked away.
Me: *laughing wickedly and for an awfully long time* wicked people forgey so easily o. Yeye man, I wonder if they think you did be beneath them for life?
S.P: If not for my background and for having parents who believe in my ability, I could have easily eneded up a roadside mechanic or worse still, a criminal.
Me: thank God for your life o
It would interest you guys to know that while all this was being said, the so called Kasunmu, didn't utter a word, neither did he look back for a second or talk to anybody for a journey that lasted a little over 7 hours. I made sure I said all "saidables", I even prayed and cursed wicked lecturers all over Nigeria and even went as far as saying:"I hope you can see where your ex student is in life and what he has accomplished so far?" All these said in a bid to provoke a reaction from Kasunmu but for where... The man just bone, do like say nor be am we dey talk about. I do know for sure that he was embarrassed as fuck and I made sure of that with my comments.

  53. For those of us who know and also witnessed this incident, we know that both the student and the lecturer were wrong. The lecturer was VERY wrong to have used belt on you, but you were wrong for (I) using your phone during ecams and trying to take pics of him (ii) you were wrong for 'jacking' his shirt around his neck (iii) you were wrong for threatening to deal with him if he stops you from taking the exam.

You play the victim in your narrative, but did not say that you have been caught for exam malpractice in the same school three times. You were suspended for one year after the incident with Mr Adams, you came back to school after one year and was caught in malpractice again by Prof Agari. You were expelled after that. You didn't say all these. You see its easy to try to get peoples sympathy by signing a petition but it really doesn't change the fact that the disciplinary committee has record of your misconducts in the school.

To say the least, the lecturer was wrong to have flogged you, but the fact that you have faced disciplinary committee more than once isn't a good record.

    5. Anon 10:56 , you are actually helping her to make her case. She stated that life was never the same for her at the university after that incidence, and here you are backing up her story. I don't believe that someone who went through such an ordeal, and knowing all eyes are now on her, will confidently go on and involve herself in exam malpractice or any similar offense.

At the very least, this lecturer and his accomplices should be fired and should never be allowed to teach in any institution again.

For those who would try to defend this man, remember that what goes around comes around. You or your loved ones are not spared. Even in abroad universities, there's racism and other forms of injustice. Thread carefully and stand for what is right, before your own words and actions stands against you tomorrow.

  74. Without any provocation she refused to move and started abusing him and in the course of that, her phone fell and broke. Later on he admits he had her phone smashed her phone.

He only tried to scare her with the belt and the belt mistakenly touch her. In the 21st century a lecturer dares remove his belt to threaten a student and is not arrested? Only in Nigeria.

she was given the malpractice form because she disobeyed a lecturer and it is against the school rule. Does the fool of a man even understand what exam malpractice means?

After hitting her with a belt he is not happy that all she did was hold his collar and he asked her to fill in an exam malpractice form? Does he realize he commited assult and should have been charged whether it was a mistake or not?

In a whole room full of students taking an exam he does not have any witnesses? Does the university not have the names of the students who sat that exam to ask for them to come forward? In fact did the university ever ask for witnesses to state what they saw.
Karma is a bitch. Shebi when he had power of life and death over them, he gave her colleagues who witnessed the incident and gasped -10 marks on their script? He did not that incident would come back to haunt him. Unlike him, she has witnesses and believe you me, I am sure they are ready to testify because no student likes to loose marks for flimsy reasons. He knows why he does not want any witnesses found.

Can you believe anything this man says

“We know you know people, and your Dad is well connected, but if you want to graduate in this school you cannot fight your lecturer and win. You have to drop this case”. It doesn’t matter which of them said this, but Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Student Affairs at that time should be suspended/arrested for aiding and abetting an assault.

What more can I say on how painful it must have been for her: I walked out with tears in my eyes and my heart was heavy with much pain. I felt the school failed me, the women in the meeting failed me even with the obvious bruises I had on my body. Afterwards, I did agree to drop the case because I wanted to graduate. I was frustrated throughout my four years in the university.
