Ben Bruce bounces back, Silverbird Rhythm FM back on air

Rhythm FM and Silverbird television have resumed operation after a “break in transmission”.

The electronic media platforms owned by the family of Ben Bruce, a senator from Bayelsa east, went off air on Thursday after officials of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) sealed off the company’s buildings in Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt.

The Bruce family allegedly defaulted in paying back a loan of N11bn they secured from Union bank; hence the forced closure of the buildings housing the businesses.
A few hours after reports of the closure of his buildings,  the Bayelsa senator expressed optimism that things would get back to normal, saying “tough times don’t last, but tough people do”.

And on Friday, the management of Silverbird communications issued a statement announcing that its radio and TV stations had resumed operation.
“The management of Silverbird Communications Ltd, owners of Rhythm Fm and Silverbird TV sincerely apologise to its numerous viewers, listeners and online subscribers over the disruption of our operations across television, radio and online media,” the statement read.

“This was due to a situation beyond our control. However, we are pleased to inform you that we are back on air on radio, television and on our online platform.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

“We remain committed to the provision of quality infotainment and premium service across our platforms.”

*Hmmmmmmm.....*smelling the air for something fishy*

  6. Not this time Stella. He defaulted. They foreclosed. He renegotiated with an undertaking and several high ranking guarantors and loud mouth ben had to seek support from the powers that "used to be but still are very relevant".# lips sealed but you can bank the info.

  9. Ok. AMCOM took over control of the companies which means the companies will keep operating but revenue will go towards repayment of the debt.

Maybe if we understand how these things work, we will stop seeing it as witch hunt.

  12. No, he has not bounced back. The seized properties are still seized. The other small businesses are the ones at work. And this news has k-leg because the Management fail to make the obvious known. The report here say they ALLEGEDLY....It is not ALLEGEDLY. They are really owing AMCON. So what is the ALLEGEDLY doing there?

  13. Politics or no politics, being a nigerian entertainment ethusiast,i can boldly say he has done a whole lot in improving our show biz and all,he was among those who saw everything coming before now,he invested his money in this even before the loan, ask the C.e.o of Up front and personal Mr Okoye, ask D'banj and Don Jazzy. That man na legend sha finally, but he needs to pay what he's owing anyways.but i will always respect him because he has been an employer of labour for decades now,so apparently he's been assisting this country's unemployment crisis for years!

  14. Must something be fishy?
    Kai, u ehn.
Under sensible situations, amcon taking over doesnt mean business will atop, just that amcon will be running the business. So it should go on and then the preoceeds will be remitted to amcon and that will be servicing the debt

  15. PR stunt ko. Now's the time for him to dig out his hidden loot and save face. All the stash they've made since abacha era. Anyway, if union bank gets some part of the 11bn, they renovate their dead branches. All's well that ends well. Common sense is back

  18. This was always a routine business issue. Debtor defaults, bank enforces rights, debtor makes good faith repayment and commits to new debt servicing schedule. Bank reopens business. Everything goes back to normal. Jokers turned the whole thing into politics.

    1. Which saddens me.

AMCON have always foreclosed loans as they like. Its half of their work. Their statutory rights.

Businesses have always owed banks. Its part of the banking game and what floats commercial banks. This loan taking thing. No big business man is free from loans or mortgage or debentures or bond of some sort.

Yet, I read some critics saying Ben Bruce was feeding fat from the misery of bankers. Ben Bruce was owing and was still feeding fat from the poor. These men saying this vacuous thing, do they believe these things? Or just want to miseducate people?

Or the fans saying its witchunting without reading the facts at all, like AMCON wont do their duties if Bruce's company is found wanting, just cos he is Bruce.

      Politics and business shouldnt mix.
