ReplyDeleteSince 2002 the king of my town in anambra declared the town for Jesus. No more activities that contradict the bible esp masquerades. He was met with heavy opposition but he stood his ground but go check his family now, it's been massive testimony one after the other and money too.. God decided to use him to show that he's the one that makes King, you can't say the same for his opposition. I truly believe that God has a good sense of humor. Just the way americans observe Halloween without believing in ghosts is the same way we have our masquerade festivals without believing in idols. Some of our christian celebration have origin from pagan festivals, but the missionaries just managed to change people's minds to channel the glory of the festivities to Christ. Google the origin of most christian celebrations if you don't believe me. I hate it when people downplay our african traditions while sticking to foreign ones. Cultures can be modified to suit your tastes. If the fetishism is the problem, isn't it better to modify it to be more positive rather than striping yourselves clean of any identity?? In this same country, we even call our own language vernacular. Hilarious!
