Tribal Marks Brouhaha

Imagine having lines torn across your face ...or the face of someone you know.....Imagine.

A Customary Court, Agege yesterday dissolved the 10-year-old marriage between a woman and her husband, because he gave their daughter tribal marks without her approval

The woman said “He lured my daughter to his village on the pretext of visiting his parents and gave her tribal marks on her face without my consent."

I will like to know your opinion on tribal marks on kids....

  5. Its barbaric and archaic! It's high time it's stopped. I once dated someone with tribal marks. Though his own is two thick long ones on each cheek like a tear drop. I don't find it okay. In fact if anybody does that to my child but God forbid, (hell will be let loose) the person will be sued for child abuse and physical endangerment to a minor. That culture or whatever it is should be abolished.

  9. My mom's father gave us Urhobo mark, even though my own dad is Isoko. But I feel my tribal mark is quite sexy; a small minus sign on my left cheek. I wouldn't mind giving my kids the Urhobo tribal mark. My main boo is Isoko and has Isoko tribal mark and I detest it; medium 11's on both cheeks. My view on tribal mark is the severity of the mark. Urhobo and Ijaw tribal marks are quite okay by me, but any other tribal mark is a no no for me

  12. First of all I can't be with a partner who still believes in tribal marks.
Anybody that tries such nonsense with me is not going to live to tell the story...either husband,in-law or my own family members.

Now the baby girl will grow up feeling inferior and won't be able to post pictures on social media

  13. I don't know why we are still practicing such barbaric custom. It should have been abolished same time with the killing of twins.
    Same thing with FGM. Mtchewww!!

  14. Tribal marks are disgusting, why should you mutilate an innocent child,I feel it's an infringement on human rights and it should be criminalized. I can only imagine the local sharp instruments used for this beastal act exposing this children to risk of Aids, hepatitis C , B.

  24. Our family have never believed in tribal marks. But birth marks.
I have a birth mark on my back. A big black mark. It grows as I grow. My siblings were also born with one but on different places. My sister has in her face. A round black dot but hers doesn't grow. Only mine grows.
    Who can also relate?

    1. I can relate. My family don't have tribal marks. My grand father never had any mark. My dad didn't have and we don't have. My mom and grand ma too don't have any marks

But I have birth marks. I have like 4 on my face. Like black dots. One on both sides of my face, that's close to my eyes. Then around my nose. The one around my nose grows. Because it use to be very tiny. But now very visible. People think I put the dot with black eyeliner. One below my lips

Then I have 2 on both hands. Same location. 1 on each laps. 2 on my chest. That's the ones I have seen. My mom had 3 on her face. The one I have on my nose is also on the same location with that of my mom. Hers looks like big black pimples. Lol. She's saying that's how my own will be. Issh. I don't think so. But it's cute tho.

My boys also have on their laps. One on each laps. And their chest. I haven't seen on their face. My last baby has a big one on his lap on the same location I have the big one on my laps.

So I'm guessing this runs in my family

    2. Lol! Birthmarks.

I have a black dot on my right cheek, very beautiful something. One on the lateral aspect of my right hand.

My sister has one, right in the middle of her forehead.

Then I have a not-so-small birthmark, that 'lacks' melanin somewhere on my body.

  31. I don't have any tribal marks. I've never seen anyone in my family, both extended and distant, with tribal marks.

And thank heavens. I do not like them at all.
