The 'Old Woman Syndrome' In Nigeria

This might pi** you off but that is fine because I am already so so pi**ed off from something i read!

One Ogonnia yesterday on Facebook posted that an old woman and her young lover had been caught making out and the woman was made to dance round the Village square or so.................

She was made a laughing stock with her young lover and today she had deleted the post but i am taken aback...........Is it that OLD people in Nigeria do not deserve to have lovers?

I sometimes see the reaction when a woman is termed  ''Old'' in Nigeria and has a boyfriend.....Like she is supposed to officially give up her love life and gbenshing because she is old?The Society frowns at women finding love again in old age but excuses the men?

What is actually the problem with the Nigerian mentality?

And yet when a foreign story of old man and woman is posted, the comments say it is never too late to find love...........LIKE REALLY?

Please, let us discuss this intelligently because i dont get it!

    2. Yes, this is WRONG! I believe a woman can be loved no matter her age as long as the "lover" finds her attractive. But here is where the problem starts; created by the women themselves; what is "her age" when it is more hidden than her intestines? Because women hide their ages, so even a pretty lady in her thirties is considered old; yes because we don't know her age. But for the men, we always know their ages. That is what one gets when ones age is only a subject of speculation and I dare ask; how old is old?

    3. I already commented on this on IG

      This is total bullshit!

      Always demonising women!

Wats wrong in her having sex?

It would have been wrong if she is maybe married or related to the boy in question. Even at that, it doesn't call for such disgrace. So so unfair!

    4. Stella, you want a convo then let me chip in my 2kobo. The divide.
The divide in Nigeria is an imaginary line that separates people that are unwilling to change their archaic ways of thinking. The divide allows for well educated people to still hold on to archaic notions only when it suits them. Truth be told, this seems like a small village where old people go when they have done all the terrible things in the world to live out their old age. Should this woman be in Lagos, this wouldn't be a problem but the people in this village know right from wrong, they choose to do wrong when it doesn't concern them.

Now let's say one of them died in the process of this public dehumanizing moment, people (learned human beings) will infer that one spirit paid them karma in hard currency. Truth is that, we as Nigerians are have allowed this divide sip away at our common sense. For Nigeria to be great again, common sense void of culture and religion must be restored. The worst part is that this public shame is that it is counter productive as many horny old women now know it's possible to have a young lover, they'd just have to be more careful. Same thing with vaginal mutilation; it's supposed to help women be more virtuousbut it ends up turning them to hoes.

  6. I'm not really against shaming old people sha but I believe when one reaches a certain age the person should be have in a way that shows he or she respects herself. There is nothing palatable about the picture above. Both the elderly woman and the supposedly young man. Sex is not food so at that age is nothing bothering the woman that it's sleeping with somebody that became her priority. .even the guy himself what does that woman have to offer him?
    Maybe a plate of food.

    6. There are a lot of issues with this silly comment. First, old people are jobless. They are mostly depressed and wish their youth back. Not just to fuck but getting up and being busy. Old age is very lonely. Kids have their own families and friends are mostly dead. Trust me, sex is more needed in old age than youth for the reasons you gave above. It is not food so one night of sex can help the heart live longer. Lest I type an epistle, all your points work against themselves. Act their age. Wehdon. So when you see a 29yr old woman that just gave birth, the first thing that comes to your mind is acting their age? Or you think your father is less of a man if he still has sex with your mum? This woman's sex drive is the norm. Women want more the older they get, that's scientifically proven. Pls lemme alone, lemme not just get angry here tonight

  8. As far as the boy in question has passed the recommended age passed by Nigerian law, he's free to go with whom ever he likes.
If he wasn't raped by the woman, I don't see any reason why they should be targeted and shamed like this.

Anyways, this happened in the village and most villages especially in the East has their traditions and culture. If their traditions permit them to do this, then, I have not much to say

  11. Nigeria stupid mentality. These people committed no crime for crying out loud, the police need to arrest those people that humiliated them, they were in their ane enjoying heir love life and companionship and some people got offended? Thats sickening. They have a right to freedom of association. I give up on Nigeria matter.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well... That's a typical Nigeria traditional setting where women are expected to be nothing. if it was the other way round i doubt a man will be exposed that way. The uneducated and ignorant minds are the reason why Nigeria is at a standpoint.
Even if i am eighty years and have the strength i will still gbensh. If hubby is late i will remarry sharply. Its never too late to find love.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I saw this yesterday and the first thing that came out of me was 'what is her offence exactly' , someone replied and said it is a crime in that part of the country, they frown against it'.

And it dawned on me why we still remain where we are as a country . How is finding love or lust a crime be it young or old? Is she hurting anyone with her actions? One can find love at any age. This is all shades of wrong .

    ReplyDelete
  14. The guy has packs o.

In Nigeria, an old woman is expected to just be old,and die.
How dare you be thinking of sex? You are on old woman, just die already.

    That's Nigeria for you.
    It's a shameful thing.
An average Nigeria has a warped and destructive mindset about women.
    Both young and old.
I see it here on this blog everyday.

That's why I choose everyday to consciously refuse to reason the way every other person does.
I choose to not let the society and its pressure decide for me on how to live or think.

And I pray to never partake to the pain of anybody, especially women.

    May God help us.

  16. This is painful & annoying. archaic lots!May God help Nigeria o. They do worse but end up judging others.
I guess they can sue if they can be lended a voice.

  17. Stella leave that thing. Most Nigerians are double standard. They talk from both sides of their mouth.
As much as I don't support fornication, the question that came to my mind when I first saw that picture is- is she married? If she's not why subject her to such ridicule. Its her body! Her life! At her age she's seen enough to know what's good for her and what's not. If looking for someone to scratch her 'ponyor' is what she needs esp in this cold season abeg what's their own.

All those people that gathered to shame that woman, if only what they do in their closet will be exposed then I'm sure most of them won't be present there.
I just feel for her and her family members, the shame they will be feeling due to such embarrassment will be out of this world. It's a pity that till now common sense is still not common.
To think that some 'educated illiterates' will be among that crowd. SMH.

  18. Look at the value place on women in the culture at any stage of life and you will get the answer. Unless a woman is attached to a man through marriage she is not considered of much value. Meditate on the following terms and their real meaning, "in your father's house" in your husband's house" "fatherland".

  21. Nigerian culture expects the longing of sexuality for a woman to die once she's married or over a certain age limit.
Anything after say 40 as a woman you are expected to forget and fade away from your sexuality.

I won't be surprised that some other people in the village have small boyfriends like the woman.

  25. Unfortunately, it's just the double standard playing out in our society. Each and everyone of us should be ashamed if we apply or encourage double standards in our lives, other people's lives or the society in general. Question - is the younger lover underage? Was he raped, or did he give his consent, if he's attained the age of consent? Why wasn't the lover paraded as well if he's attained the age of consent, gave his consent and wasn't molested? Our society will always be polluted if we continue with our double standards. How many old men have been called out for having younger lovers? Ekene kwa'm unu.

  26. Saw it first thing this morning and I've been in a rotten mood since then. How dare they? What is wrong in two consenting adults indulging in a healthy adult behavior? Why criminalise and shame them because the woman is old? So far she's alive, she should be able to enjoy all life has to offer. I'm so angry, why do we spiritualise everything, they are insinuating she is using witchcraft because the guy is younger. The effontry to even post such on facebook. Backward and ignorant hypocrites.

  28. Me partically, I be love mistress, but when people abuse am ,i no dey support trash, we are in a country where some shit don't happen , like wise when an old woman sees a boy and a girl having sex when they aren't married that reaction is always there, now if a man or woman be it a widow, widower , divorcee o , tell your kids and family members let them know you need a companion to save your head from so many embarrassment from the community or your place of worship, because na naija we dey, what I saw yesterday was rubbish pure rubbish , who does that . Woman wey no nutrient dey body guy man dey climb am she sef relax dey enjoy , is either he is using that woman or that woman is just an ignorant mother or granny, what I saw yesterday was stupidity between two hungry people,Na just say their cup don full berekete.wetin small pikin go do you go correct am na wetin dem dey do, why some guys no go talk say nothing dey woman when some of them dey climb their mama mate for free instead of them dey go hustle, no man for this nija go marry woman or fall in love with woman wey no fit born pikin, make the person wey want argue with me comment under me make we fix date wey we take do debate.

  29. He who is without sin should cast the first stone. A 40 year old man cannot sexually satisfy a 40 year old woman. In this case, the woman should be in her late sixties and I'm sure she's widowed. Why shame them? Who gave them the right? May God forgive some people. Two adults having sex has become a spectacle for shameless voyeurs.

Does it mean an older woman can't fall in love with someone younger than her? Unfortunately, the women folk are ones convicting them and these women can't deny having extra Marital affair.
Come to think of it, the subject matter can't be depleted so why disturb them.

  36. Ladies please let's be sincere for once, women contribute a lot to this "old woman's syndrome"
Now Stella or any other lady on this blog, can you comfortably tell us your age?
If not, the public is left with only speculations; mostly wrong ones. Perhaps counting the number of kids a woman has had or when she got married and quickly conclude most times wrongly that the lady is "old". Ageing is a process set by God the creator and it is not only woman that age; men do.

  41. Stella women in Nigeria are responsible for their own problem, majority of Nigerian women will never ever agree to date a guy they are older than except for a few. They planted this mentality in us the men that is wrong to for a lady to be older than her guy. I have met so many ladies here that are just a year or two older than i am but bluntly refuse to date me simply because they are older. Ladies in this blog how many of you deep inside your heart will agree to date a younger guy? Miss Cin you are guilty of this.
