Court Orders MTN To Pay Ex-Nigerian Operations Manager N4.8billion For Terminating His Appointment..

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Akure Division, has ordered MTN Nigeria Communications Limited and MTN International, Mauritius, to pay its former Network Group Operations Manager, Mr Paul Odunewu, $13,419,728.54, £10,000 and N2,540,000 (totalling N4, 825,036,735.9) following wrongful termination of employment. 




Justice Oyejoju Oyewunmi made the order following Odunewu’s suit challenging his 2006 termination and the deprivation of his entitlements including share options valued at $13,144,512.00. MTN Group Limited, South Africa; MTN Nigeria and MTN International, Mauritius were first, second and third defendants in the suit which lasted 10 years from the Lagos State High Court to the NICN. 


” The judge ordered MTN to make the payments within 30 days following which the sums would appreciate at 21 percent interest per annum.
In reaching judgment, the court agreed with the submissions of Odunewu’s counsel, Mr Kemi Balogun (SAN) that MTN unfairly imposed a restraint of trade on Odunewu, thus preventing him from working for a period.

  5. Yes oh! Work is 2 way to road. Slavery was banned long time ago.
    And many employers dont get it all. They see anybody at all working for them as piece of trash or an object to be played, manipulated without any consequences & serious ramifications. Things like unfair dismissal, harassments of any kind, injury in the work place r all things for big money payouts & settlements...that in fact u can never dream of making at the end if u r working for next 50 yrs!!!

    Especially the yoruba r very good at this, hitting back hard on any employer, or manager & an authority that set out to hurt them on the job or in the workplace.

    Right now I'm still working at age of 46, but my mates I saw in England, UK r all retired now. All of them yoruba people like that. Early retirement with huge benefit payouts etc. It's the Igbo ones there I know of, our age mates that r still working in UK till now. Lol!
    Please don't mess with the yoruba people whenever u see them in the work place, otherwise they will wound u seriously... Moving on & smiling very happy to the bank because of the faults of an employer's nonsense against them.
