Dasuki Gate: Supreme Court Adjourns Sambo Dasuki’s Appeal Till January 2018

The supreme court has adjourned the hearing of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser’s appeal till January 25, 2018. Dasuki had filed a suit asking the apex court to compel the federal government to obey the orders of lower courts, granting him bail.

In December 2015, the Department of State Services (DSS) raided the Abuja residence of Dasuki, reportedly carting away firearms and cash.

The secret police subsequently arrested the former NSA and charged him with illegal possession of firearms and money laundering before Adeniyi Ademola, justice of the federal high court, Abuja.

Ademola granted Dasuki bail, but the DSS still kept him in custody. The DSS later arrested the judge after raiding his residence. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed charges of money laundering, abuse of office and misappropriation of funds against Dasuki over his alleged involvement in $2.1 billion arms purchase scam.

Dasuki was granted bail by two high courts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where the EFCC filed the corruption charges, but the DSS refused to release him. No progress has been made in his trial owing to his continued detention.
