  2. Christmas 2008, my friend Adenike's elder sister whom she was staying with bought her a funny dress with shoe, hat and bag to match. She also bought these flowery stockings with lace finishing and insisted she wore it. Her reason being that she bought same thing for her daughter and she didnt want world people to start saying she didnt buy a "complete" outfit for Adenike because she is not her child. Adenike was about 14/15 years old while the daughter in question was 4years old. LMAO. Imagine doing anco with a four years old. I dont even know if Adenike later wore it or not. End of story

  3. My worst christmas experience was some years back. I was just strolling around when I found and got attracted to a very beautiful and big hair saloon and I thought it would be nice to make my christmas hair and be the envy of my female neighbors.
It was just three days to christmas and I also have to fix my hair, get my dress from oshodi market(then when it was rowdy).
I got to the saloon, made my hair unfortunately,it turnt out to be very bad. She couldn't get the koni koni hairstyle I wanted(got that from the vixen in koni koni love ft danny young). The hair was a total rubbish and I ended up stretching neck like an ostrich. My other neighbour friends all laughed at me. I couldn't move my neck at all.
While I was angry,I remembered I still needed to go to Oshodi for my shopping. It was so embarrassing in the molue I was in cos everyone kept pitying my inconvenience caused by my stretched head. I breathed a sigh of relieve when I got to the bus stop. I got two pair of skirts and got 'em' packed in a polythene bag. When done and about to cross the block stand to the other lane,I looked into my nylon and smiled seeing my beautiful skirt that will gimme that radiant joy on christmas day when it looks sexy on me. I boarded a bus back home, got a seat and placed the nylon on my laps. Nylon felt so lightly. Ah ha something is wrong na; so I felt. I checked into the nylon. Fiam! One of my skirt was gone! The Nylon has been cut with blade and my skirt stolen. That must have been when we were hustling to get into the bus.
I cried that day ehn. Hair zero, cloth stolen. Naso I stretched head like tolotolo till after christmas and managed my one and only skirt like that

  7. The worst Christmas that I've ever experienced happened in 1997, I was 10 years old. My parents got separated two months before that time. My mum had relocated back to her father's house leaving myself and my two siblings with my dad because he won't allow her go with us.

I don't know if it was depression or a way of getting back at my mom; my dad refused to buy us Christmas clothes, not even a grain of rice, not to even talk of chicken. In fact, he gave us correct EBA and soup to eat in the morning of that Christmas day. Since it was a public compound, come and see aroma of fried rice, jollof rice, coconut rice, rice and stew flying from left, right and centre from our neighbours kitchen.

When my siblings and I couldn't take it any longer, we started crying. We wept as if we were orphans. It was one of our neighbours who called us into her house and gave us rice and stew. That is one Christmas I don't like remembering.

Maybe its that experience that has moulded me into who I am today. Every Christmas I go round my neighbourhood sharing cooked rice to the less privileged no matter how little.

  8. My Best Christmas ever was when my mum sowed these old 'OLEKU' native and she wanted all the girls to snap christmas picture..I was so stubborn cause I wanted to wear my own with canvas instead of the black pretty shoe..Oh Boy no be small flog them flog that day..I cried and forced to wear the black shoe..Kept frowning for the camera, but when it was time to stay on the queue to collect #20 each fiam I was the first to jump in ooo. My mom said bring it lemme help you keep it but for where I had disappeared..

Another had to be the one where there was a mixup with the cooking. I usually make the fried rice and my elder sister does the Jollof or coconut rice.
So that Christmas she insisted on making the fried rice and we argued about it. Apparently when I stormed off she shouted "make your damned fried rice!" But I no hear so I thought she was making stew but na jollof she cook.
So I finished watching movies and went to make jollof rice. Time to set the table, we discovered we both made jollof. Another round of screaming ensued. Our folks were just looking at us like we were crazy. We probably were. We sha ate two different jollof rice....
My dad was like you two are confused....
    Those years where fun mehn

  9. I always look for to Christmas eve and new eve because every family member including cousins, nephews nieces etc must be around to celebrate it with daddy and at the end of it all, daddy blesses each and every one of us. What we do is prepare by to chilling the wines and frying the fish ahead. When we all return from church the mini party and blessings begin. However, last year, everything came to a halt. House was gloomy, deserted and the centre could no longer hold because the pillar was gone. I miss those moments.

  10. It was chritmas in 2001 n i was just 11 years old. My best friend, lemme call her Beti was eargarly waiting for the 25th to come so we can go to club for the very first time. My Dad was a trader and he use to sell all types of materia. My mom was too chucrhy and every festive period, she will take materia from my dad shop to sow a traditional over size atire for my sister n I. I never had even a pair of pant, jean or fancy skirt. I always had to dress like one igbo bush girl. Back then in Cameroon, teanagers dress sexy with short skirts, tight jeans n Tommy crop tops.My case was different cuz my mom said is a worldly way to dress. So I told Beti I can't come with her to the club. She then ask me not to worry that she will ask her mom to buy an extra atire for me. Dressing problem was solved. On Christmas day, after the rice and chicken eating. I took permission from Mom to go visit Beti. Mom n dad said I can go and come back before 7pm. So I left, when I got to her house, I change my over size sow cloth to a sexy, short jean skirt,Tommy top n high shoes. Her mom apply make up on us and we left for the city. After rounds of pop corn, soya n juice, we went to the teanager club. See dancing, fun n circles. It was fun. We dance till I got tasty, told Beti we should go out n buy a drink , while we were walking to the shop, my brother called me. The lights where like magic and the night seems like it was day. My brother ask me what I was still doing in the city ? He said Mom n dad have been calling his phone. That is 2am. What ? 2am ? I started paniking. I knew my own is finish today. My brother called a taxi for me and I went home. On getting there, mom n dad where waiting for me. See trouble. I did not remember to change into my over size traditional wear. My dad was so disappointed n ask me why I was half nacked? What's that stuff on my face n lips? I was looking like a street girl. My mom flog me, till I slept crying. The next day. They called Beti mom, who advice my mom by telling her we are just teanagers and are not spoil. My mom should allow me dress like teenagers of my age. And that she trust Beti and they discuss about everything. Ever since that day, my mom talk more with us and allow us dress the way we want. I was not tag a spoil child again but I sha never went out n return after 7pm.

  11. Christmas is the most precious time of the year in my family with lots of celebration. First, my mum's birthday is on 23rd December and my younger sister's on 26th December, triple celebration every season. And there is no season that a relative won't be wedding.
At the beginning of the ember month, my mom will start shopping, she will measure our feet with broom stick to get our shoe size. Then it was this dress with matching cap and bag, it was always two. One for Christmas day and the other for new year day.
On christmas season you get to meet every member of the family. When one of my dad's brother decides not to travel home (village) for Christmas, it will discourage others.
This particular season, I think I was 5 then, my dad just came back home and told my mom not to bother preparing that we won't be travelling home for christmas. We pleaded with our dad but to no avail, we even rioted. My siblings and I, we wore my dads clothes and shoes, and was singing "onwa December, onwa December na o ru we go, onwa e ji enwe anwuri". Even at that we still didn't go, but he made it up to us by taking us to Mr Biggs, on christmas day and new years day.
Then the visitors that will always come to see my parents, they were of three categories; the good the bad and the ugly" The good will visit, eat and drop something for the kids(money) while the bad will eat, eat and leave us empty handed. The ugly are those that come with ulterior motive, those ones will want to see how far you have gone in life, they will look around to see if there is any new car, always plotting evil, they are the " village people", they eat with you, laugh with you and plot evil at the same time.

From the money received from relations, we buy sweets, knout out, suya, balloons e.t.c
This money is later collected from us by the real owner( mom) promising to keep it safe, indeed.

There is this period, I saved 6000. I announced it to all that cared to listen, I counted the money every other minute, I went everywhere with it. I was the richest kid in the compound, while others spent theirs on vanities, I saved mine.
I didn't even let my mom touch the money, I was a better keeper, I wrapped it in a paper, the paper in a nylon, the nylon in a purse, the purse in a mini bag which I carried everywhere.
I denied myself so much enjoyment just to save that much. I had better plans for that money. During that period, my cousin got married, and lots of people visited, some of her friends slept in our house. The next day I found out that my money was missing, I searched for it everywhere, nobody confessed to taking it. That incident ruined my christmas, it also humbled me. It even turned me into an FBI. I suspected and questioned everyone irrespective of the age and status. My siblings and cousins made fun of me eh.
I sha left it in God's hand, on the last day I will find out who took that money, me and the person will fight before God, na Angel Micheal go separate us*just kidding.

  12. This Christmas story of mine is a combination of embarrassing, worst and hillarious.
In the early nineties, this normal hair relaxer was not common, some of you will remember this mixture with an awful smell, we called it Ghana something something, can't remember now, it straightens the hair amidst great pains. I was a little girl then.
So this particular December, few days to Christmas, I saw some parents applying this chemical on their kids hair and the result was nice or so I thought. I failed to see the way they cried seriously while it lasted, some of them were dancing reggae while crying. I pestered my mum that I want my hair to be like my friends own. After much tears, she sent someone to buy it for her in the market then asked one lady to apply it on my hair.
My people, when they were applying it, I was weeping. Serious weeping. At a point I stood up and started walking around while the lady kept following me and applying it. If they ask whether they should stop, I would say no. After application, they said it would be left on my hair for some minutes before washing. By now, my whole head was on fire, I screamed and cried so much that my mum asked them to wash it off.
Lo and behold, more than half of my hair had gone off, my scalp was filled with sores, open wounds oh. The following day which was 24th, the sores on my head were smelling badly. I was also in pains. Dad had to clear my hair and then applied GV on my scalp. Everywhere was filled with smelling sores. So I was bald, with purple coloured smelling sores on the head. On Christmas day, I was locked in the room. I Cried. It was a very sad Christmas for me.

  13. My dad used to buy 2 chickens for christmas and then new year we travel home. So on this Christmas, I think year 1998 or so. Early in the morning on 24th of Dec, around 5am, we heard footsteps at the back of our house. Dad came to our room and urged us to keep quiet. Then he picked his cutlass and tiptoed outside through the kitchen door. Later we heard a man's voice begging him. We all went outside by now, we saw a young man holding a bag, my dad asked him to bring out the content of the bag. He brought it out, he had killed the two chickens that we locked inside a cage. How he unlocked the cage and killed them without a sound still baffles me. Dad held him captive till daybreak. Then he tied the dead chickens to a rope and put the rope on the thief's neck like a necklace. The chickens now looked like two big pendants. He sent for a photographer who came and took some shots of the thief. Lols. He later called on youths to take the thief round the neighbourhood with correct beatings after which he was allowed to go. Yes, my dad begged them to allow him go. I still don't know what he did with the pictures till today. Lols. If it were to be in these days of social media, his pics would flood everywhere.

  15. Sad Christmas.
How can I forget 25th morning of the 2006. We attended night mass on the 24th on getting home my father and I went into the chicken pen. We have two big Rooster that we intended to use for Xmas. We tied it up and placed it under a basket,I placed a stone on the top of the basket to keep it in place. On waking up 25th morning, I rushed out to sweep the compound I saw the basket facing the sky and our Christmas meat"the chickens " have disappeared. I ran inside told my dad he asked us to look for it in the farm around our house. This is how we started hunting for our rooster. It's still a mystery how the Roosters disappeared without any trace.

  16. I have to go anonymous on this one please BV's,I anticipate Christmas a lot, why, because of watchnight church service, I love singing, its a pity I don't have the voice. Last year, a girl I just met took me to this big church for their watchnight service. Service started at ten, the carols we sang was so moving, it made us fall in love together again,we were both singing along and staring at each others eyes, the procession of the choir while entering was something else, a lady was carrying this baby Jesus, there was one who was blowing trumpet, it was so so, romantic, ethereal, after service, we kissed in the snow, went home and I played Teddy Pendergrass on heavy rotation all night for her.Xmas morning, She woke me with breakfast in bed, kissed me and thanked me for making her so happy. Can't forget last year Xmas, looking forward to this year's. Yeah, of course, we still together, stronger, ever, ever, all thanks to last year's Xmas , thanks Stellz for letting me share, and you BV's for sharing yours too

  17. Oh how I loved Christmas season especially once we close for the term,my parents will pack me and my siblings into our tiny Volkswagen car,our Ghana must go bag fully packed of course down to my grandma's house,my grandma is a no nonesense firm believer.

One day,we were all playing in the compound, some group of village dancers that sing and dance then you give them money came to our compound because they already knew that some people are already back for christmas.my Grandma on hearing their voice started screaming at them from the kitchen with her pistol on her hand.they all ran,and I was not aware they were running because of Grandma,I had to fellow them and started running towards another compound,I didn't know that there was this mad man inside the place,he started running after me and held me so tight that I was grasping for breath,I screamed untill my grandma rushed and rescued me after a long battle with the mad man.it was a terrible experience that I will never forget.

  19. Hehehehe. Let me contribute today... Becaussseeee Christmas is my best season evuuurrrrrr!!!!!

So my dilemma started few days before christmas. We already entered Uni so wanted to travel to the Villa in grand style, we went every year.

My Mom starts shopping in November... Then the decors and music. She really tried to make Christmas memorable till date... As much as I have tried, I can't recreate those moments.

Back to my gist... so I decided to wrap my nails.. I had long nails and since I wanted to go natureeeel that year and sophiscated too, I got info that this particular saloon knew how to do it. A small town so We knew the owner, problem was that the entire town goes there too.
Umunnem, a day before we were supposed to leave for Villa, I told Momsie my plans for hair and nails.. She gave me the plenty money i needed and off I went.
When I got to the saloon the queue was much, the owner asked of my parents and told me how I am now a big girl now oooh.
I noticed she kept begging me so she can attend to other WOMEN in a hurry. As they were Aunties, I just kept quiet and was listening to senior jokes.
It stared getting dark and this lady made me call my Mom to say I will be coming home pretty late.. something that was unheard of in the house. But because it was christmas season... there is usually this excitement and forgiveness of sins going on at home.
My people that was how this lady kept me till 12midnight.. my battery went dead.. ofcourse nothing in hell was going to make me venture into the streets at that time.
So we were able to wrap the so called nails and I still had my hair to fix.
The entire night/early morning.. I cursed myself for my situation.. My heart beat so fast, but anytime I look down on my gorgeous, different nails, I consoled myself.

Umunnem, Early MoMo... She started fixing my hair,I didn't even bother looking for a charger and that was my undoing as I could have been warned of the impending disgrace.
As she was installing the second to the last line.. we just heard commotion on the extremely busy road.. The most popular for hair and women stuff in my town.
I looked up and saw my Dad bounding down from his car and my Mom in close pursuit.
He was screaming and asking the woman to leave my hair while shoving me into the car.. people gathered and begged him to allow her finish the installation. Who sigh? I was disgraced. My big girl ego shattered.
I entered the car with my shame and saw my sibling giggling.. looked around and saw one small black leather he shoved my things in. He packed my things for meπŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I got to the village and realised that Momma so wonderful had helped me pack my christmas dresses and everything required to make Iyanga.
My sins were forgiven in the village because my grand parents didn't let him hit us anytime we travel.

Oh guess what? The nails fell off before 25th😳😳😳

  20. My worst Christmas was in 2013 as I lost my dad few days to Christmas. My family was mourning while others were celebrating.
It's still the worst day of my life. I still cry and hurt till date but life continues.
November 15th would have been his birthday but he is no longer here to celebrate with us and it's getting to his death anniversary and all I can think of is what is life really about?
He was so strong and agile that i felt he was going to live for a long time. We should all learn to take life one day at a time as we only live once. When we die we can never get another chance at living.
RIP papa. Your memory lives on.

  21. Xmas, the time is near It reminds me of one Christmas Goat in the village some years ago.
It was customary for my uncle to kill animals and cook up a storm as his house bubbles during xmas with feasts. All roads usually lead to his house for food and Chacha notes. That xmas we all came from the cities to spend xmas and we were playing like there was no tomorrow in the villa, Omo see freedom kaai until my cousin went to hide iduring the hide and seek game in the night, he was crouching in the goat pen after releasing the goats, the malams in charge of killing the animals entered the dark pen, held my small cousin by the neck thinking it was the goat and dragged him to the back for killing only for people to scream ...o bu kwa madu ohhh, o buro ewu..it is a human being not a goat..chaai, the neck grip had choked the boy who had almost collapsed, he was resuscitated and we did not want to eat goat meat as the thought that it could have been our cousin lingered. That was our last xmas in our uncle's house. Christmas goat still scares me biko
