Labour Room Drama 216

WOW:....Is this for real?Cool!!!

hi Stella

I am an ardent reader of your blog. No day pass without me checking Stella's blog...........

In 2012, i found out i was pregnant, went for my scan and all, everything was perfect, we were expecting a boy, hubby was over the moon. Fast forward at 13 weeks, as part of blood test performed, they discovered i am AS. I received a letter from the hospital that i should bring my partner for testing, we live in the UK.

BVS, i wanted to enter ground, i shouted Jesus Christ🏼🏼i did not even ask hubby his genotype when we were dating, love blinded me. I quickly ran to him and he said babe, take it easy , i am AA. I asked who told him, he said in Nigeria, then i started crying and laughing at the same time. chaii my parents would kill me, i have 2 cousins that died of sickle cell, hubby kept saying don't worry the baby wont have sickle cell.

lo and behold, hubby's result was out, he was also AS.they called us for counselling, either we do abortion or do CVS and check if the baby would be a carrier. when i saw how long that needle was to pierce my tummy, i declined the CVS. we decided to leave the baby. fast forward due date was Christmas eve, no sign of baby. i was having serious braxton hicks, i kept calling the hospital am in labour, and after few questions, they tell me that's not labour. choii , i hear am.

On new years eve, i saw my show, then i called hospital and they asked me to come. after 24 hours of labour , i asked for epidural, i was in mad pain as in maaaaad pain. that epidural injection calmed me down. eventually , after 48 hours, 2 doctors came and checked me and said i was only 2cm dilated for 48 hours and baby's heart rate was dropping on the monitor. they said the next option is CS, i signed the document with immediate alacrity.

I was ready to meet my baby. i was wheeled into theatre, and within 20 minutes, my queens baby was born. he didn't cry, i kept asking , is he alright? finally they handed him over and he was the most gorgeous baby ever.

immediately, his blood was taken to check his genotype. chaii i was crying because i did not know what result would come out. i was discharged 3 days after. i couldn't bond with my boy, i was scared, unhappy, everything you could think of. 7 days later, we received a letter from the hospital saying our baby was AS, you need to see the way hubby carried me and we were screaming the house down. thank you Jesus, you did this🏾🏾.we had 2 more babies but both were delivered through IVF, the embryos with sickle cell were destroyed, while the good ones was planted in me. To God be the glory.
I will be in the comment section. Stellllllastica

*WOW....so they can check and destroy the ones that have the sickle cell? This is another good one for couples who insist on being together by all means.

  5. Yes Stella. They even do it in Nigeria. A friend told me this week cos she's going for IVF and we were gisting about different fertility clinics and their success rates. It doesn't come cheap though.

That is why it's very good to check genotype before marriage.

    Congrats to you both

    1. I have a friend who got married last year, she and her hubby are both AS, and she's even a nurse.
She said once she's pregnang after 3months they will check the baby's genotype and if its SS they will terminate it but up till now a single belle never enter (God pls forgive me). I told this my friend to part ways with her hubby while they were still dating but she said if she leave him people will say she jilted him after graduating from nursing school because it was her hubby who saw her through school.
The hubby said even if its just two AS he doesn't mind. This thing called love though.

      Hello Swaggie

  12. Wow... God is GREAT! I can't imagine the trauma you would go through until the day you were told your baby is AS. Didn't know they use to do genotype selection through IVF, I thought it was only gender selection they do.

    1. i swear with my life, we didnt even talked about it, i am an advocate against 2 AS marrying each other, but how i forgot to ask surprised me. if i had not gone for blood test, i will just be giving birth to babies with SS unknowingly

    3. Anon 14:01, calm down. Not everyone check these things. Hubby and I didn't even check sef. It was when I was pregnant and I was told to do some test that genotype issue came up. But lucky for us, we are both AA. So the poster, might not be lying.

  22. Thank God for safe delivery. Some labs in Nigeria dont have good equipments, infact some use expired reagents which affects the result at the end of the day.

  23. CVS chorionic villus sampling is done earlier than amniocentesis as early as 10-12 weeks gestation. Both are for prenatal genetic abnormalities.
Congrats poster. Pls shed more light on the IVF option. It is free in the UK? How can one do it if you don't reside in the UK? We need more information about it.

  24. Yes stella , it is called PGD/PGS. pre diagnostic screening, where each embryos will be screened to see which one has sickle cell. they take a little bit of the embryo and test it in the lab. so they will destroy those eggs, and the good embryos will be preserved. they can alao check the embryos sex or other chromonosal abnormalities. we get IVF free but we paid little extra for the PGD. intending couples who live abroad and are both AS can try it
