NEMSA Explains Why Electricity Meters Are Running Faster In Nigeria

Complaints that electricity meters are now running faster is on the increase and  the Nigeria Electricity Management Service Agency (NEMSA) has offered an explanation that says it observed that power supply in the country has increased.

According to its Managing Director, Engr. Peter Ewesor, the manner of meter installation also determine its functionality.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the specialized technical training for NEMSA’s Engineers and Technical officers holding at NAPTIN, Abuja, he pointed out that lack of good earthing could make a meter read a fault as a load for the consumer to pay more than what he consumes.

The Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation said “people are complaining that their meters are running, they have forgotten that power supply has increased. If you were using power only three hours before, now you have power for six hours or 15 hours it is a multiplication of the number of hours you were using.”

Ewesor added that some customers meters are reading their generator plant loads because of bad installation.

He said because of the anticipation of excessive supply of meters into the country, owing to the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) regulation of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) the agency has already started remodeling and equipping its meter test stations in Kaduna to test the meters

    5. Oxygen must have done what my ex guy did to his prepaid metre. Anon they usually rewired the whole thing and its usually done by NEPA guys themselves but if you're caught you will pay 50k fine or be imprisoned for 6months. Continue to manage your prepaid like that before awoof throw you inside trouble.

    6. If you are caught, then it wount be funny again. It's known as bypass and can be done by d nepa guys. But you no the ones in charge of metering is different and they trace the line when they show to inspect right. I buy a minimum of 5k a month and it last me. Secret your bulbs should be energy saving. No standing fans. Switch off all alliance as you leave. My fridge is always on. Get there rate and no what to use and their ratings. It would guide you.

  8. Hmm, by-passing pre-paid meter is an offence. Also know that that power you think you are consuming for free is being paid foe by people getting estimated bills. If the electricity distribution company for example supply 10kw to a transformer, at the end of the month they deduct the amount pre-paid meter users consume and share the rest ti estimated bill users. So if them dey swear for nepa for high bill all of Una Wey dey use power no pay go take small for the swear oo. So continue. If you by-pass pre-paid meter and you join them in abusing / cursing corrupt people, know that you are cursing yourself too. So better change your ways.

Lies, something that used to last for two weeks now lasts for 3 days with the same hours of electricity supply.
