Zambia University Starts Courses In Witchcraft

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has given the University of Zambia US$340,000 to develop a Degree Programme to train students in witchcraft.

The training in what is referred to as Intangible Cultural Heritage will commence with the first intake comprising of 20 students.

The Zambia National Commission for UNESCO has explained that Intangible Heritage comprises of practices such as Witchcraft, Social Practices such as expression through music, Knowledge, skills-as well as the instruments, objects, artifacts and rituals.

Zambia National Commission for UNESCO Secretary General Dr. Charles Ndakala said despite efforts in safeguarding cultural heritage, there are cases of destruction of priceless culture heritage in certain countries which threatens traditions and customs.

Dr. Charles Ndakala was speaking to Journalists on the sidelines of a five days’ workshop for the orientation of UNZA Lecturers on Intangible Culture Heritage.

In November last year, Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo announced that Zambia should consider research and the study of witchcraft as a science that can be used productively for the benefit of the country.

Professor Luo said Zambian scientists can learn from the South African counterparts who have commenced studies in witchcraft in some universities.

“I could not help but think of witchcraft when I saw a mobile phone put into a box and it turned into a lady’s pant!” she said during the commemoration of the World Science Day for Peace and Development dubbed: ‘Recreating interest in science, technology and innovation’.

    2. Sadly, people like you do not even know that Western universities appreciate courses like this. In the West, those courses we have no value for are very well studied and taught. Read above again, UNESCO is putting in money for it because it is a course worthy of research. We just keep making uninformed comments because a lot of Nigerians are limited to their geographical birth places. If not, you would know that our President never mentioned LAZY in the widely commented video. Let me even say we are truly lazy because that is the reason why you get the kind of comments we see on blogs.

    3. Do you know why Harry Poster sold so much? It is because the film is centred on WITCHCRAFT and it was well written. A professor in my department in Canada studies witchcraft in medieval Europe. Is it because he is backward? Do you think studying about witchcraft means people are not going forward? I don’t know why we have this loose mentality that we don’t appreciate what we have. It is your kind of mentality that makes us have no value for courses like Political science, Sociology, Yoruba, Hausa, Chemistry, Mathematics. Because all you people think of is Medicine, Engineering, Law and Pharmacy. We should go beyond this laziness and learn to hold high the things that we have.

  5. @Stella

Just tell them that they will go "abroad" to UNICEF headquarters for internship after the study
and I tell you that even "pastors" will be preaching and persuading members to register.
    Proof?
When MMM came, were they not doing the presentation in a Nigerian (Pentecostal) church(es)?
Didn't we read it on this blog?
Just tell "these pastors" that "an abroad man" has proposed, he will tell you that "god"
has decreed it. Tell them a Nigerian civil servant proposed and they will tell you to "reject it
in ?? name" Ladies especially will be deceived.

  7. I commend SA and Zambian universities. They moved ahead of me, I had this plan after achieving every and ready to go so I won't be afraid of the consequences. That phone, or flat plastic or metal that you can talk into and suddenly hear your brother's voice plus see his face, my people is that not witchcraft? That's what the westerners use their own "witchcraft " to develop . Let us as Africans with our juju/witchcraft/voodoo also contribute to this world, if those claims are real. No be only oyinbo follow come.
