CBN Orders Banks To Refund Wrongful Deductions To Nigerians

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that it had ordered banks to refund N65billion to Nigerians.

The refund covered wrongful deductions and charges from customers’ deposits and other transactions in the last six years.

Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Isaac Okorafor, confirmed this on Wednesday at a fair with the theme: ‘Promoting Financial Stability and Economic Development’ for stakeholders in Asaba, Delta State.

“We have recovered and returned to customers over N65bn out of complaints by people over acts of treatment on customers, wrong charges, wrong deductions and others since 2012/2013 when we started,” he said.

  3. Especially DIAMONDBANK ooooo. Every month they debit nothing less than 1,500 from my account when the salary hits. I don’t use it for Ay transaction except just move the money to another bank. And they do the debits between 11pm and 3am. It will read, you have maintenance charges N150 when I look at the balance, between N500 and N1,500 has been débited. Wicked bastards. Don’t know why my office use them. Idjiots in Nedu’s voice. For the last 2years.

    2. Enchantress nwanyi oma, I don't blame them o, maybe they noticed that you don't keep the money with them despite the fact say the salary comes through them, so they decided to cut there own share

    3. Your own is just 1500. Last month they removed 13k plus. On Monday, they removed 24k plus. If over 37k comot from profit how much go remain? I've complained and they admitted it's wrong deduction but to refund na problem.

    4. The only thing I will do in your writeup is replace Diamond bank with First bank. Infact if you travel and leave your money in First bank,by the time you come back, your account will be in debit. I put my savings in first bank but every month if they don't remove more than 1500 de no go rest. I think Zenith is the best for now.

    5. @Style, the only thing first bank deduct from savings account is sms alert charge (#4 per sms). #50 for card maintenance and stamp duty when there is a deposit above 1000(CBN imposed).

    6. I don't think it is First Bank you're banking with. Unless you have a loan you are servicing or you do top up every day then SMS alert charges on those transactions.

    8. My dear, your talk about first Bank is very true. I opened account with them so I can be saving there while doing business with the money in Gtbank, only for the bank to be deducting money every month or week self while Gtbank was paying interest even though it was little cos na business money be that Pay in and withdraw out.

After 3months I kukuma close the account and left the 1k .... Kobo for them. I go soon close my daughter's account with them too. The only thing holding us back is just that my daughter's hostel is only first bank that is close to the tenants, so they prefer it.

Na was o! With their constant bad network in PH.

    10. lol Chukwuemeka Anya its not funny. is that a valid reason. the major reason i dont bank with them was the ish that happened to a colleague. as the salary de drop, someone withdrew 300k from the said colleague's salary. after investigation, the bank claimed she carried out atm withdrawal in owerri. na so babe brign out atm from purse de show them asking how she go don dey owerri within the hour that the salary was paid. it was obvious its a member of their staff and they tried to cover it up. so ask me why i would wanna leave money there.
@ anon 09:26, of course it is
