New Nollywood Versus Asaba Nollywood

''I have noticed a trend now in Nollywood...

There is the normal Nollywood Asaba / Enugu movies that everyone knows and the The New Nollywood ( as they call it ). The New Nollywood is made up of movies that are shot that can be shown in the Cinemas in contrast to the Asaba movies that are mostly home videos.

With the advent of the New Cinema Nollywood, also comes new actors from that sector. The only person i seem to know his name there is O.C Ukeje... there are others i have to Google cos of this article ...

a) Okey Uzoeshi
b ) I.K Ogbonna
c) Kenneth Okolie
d) Alex Ekubo etc.... them plenty oo.

The New Nollywood Cinema movies have better locations, better wardrobe and technicals but most times their actors are mechanical, they can't really act.

These new Nollywood Cinema Actors are not known, though they act movies that are mostly shown at the Cinemas. I also noticed that their stardom seems to end on the Island ( Victoria Island - Lekki - Ikoyi - VGC axis ). They are known mostly to Ajebutter crowds... Mainland Lagos areas like Mushin, Okoko, Oshodi etc don't really know them. Also the rest of Nigeria.

Now coming to Asaba Movie Actors, thatz where it seems money and fame are made. The movies might not be fantastic coupled with their crappy story lines, but that's the Nollywood that is known all over Africa and beyond. It has produced top movie stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Ekeinde, Patience Ozokwor, Pete Edochie, Rita Dominic, Jim Iyke, Oge Okoye, Ramsey Noah, Mercy Johnson, Queen Nwokoye, Nonso Diobi, Mike Ezuruonye etc... These Asaba movie actors shoot like 3 movies at a go in one week, with their fee averaging N500,000 per movie depending on how hot the actor is.

Although some of them dont shoot Asaba movies anymore e.g Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Ekeinde, Stephanie Okereke... but majority still act in those movies cos thats where the fame and money is....

Why i said this, is because even the so-called posh Cinema Nollywood actors wishes to act in Asaba movies to get the nationwide fame and money too. The Cinema movies will only get you instagram hype and AMVCA Nomination but the real money is not there. How many times do they shoot Cinema movies in a year? Mostly once a month or once in 3 months. So for those actors, what will they be doing in between shoots, hunger go kill dem nah....

This is my observation. Rita Dominic's producer and partner for all her Cinema movies tweeted in 2016 on Twitter that she will do everything within her power to feature Queen Nwokoye in one of her Cinema movies because of her outstanding talent. But that she has to queue up because Queen is an extremely busy actress now, producers book her in advance. Thats the power of being Hot in the industry.

    5. Truth be told these new nollywood actors cannot act at all. There are stereotypical, and they don't go into their character especially Ik Ogonna, Alex ekubo and their clique. Speaking phonetics up and down even in a village scene

    6. Genevieve and Omotola acted mostly in Enugu and Lagos. I don't think they acted in Asaba. Mercy Johnson and co are the real Asabarians.

    8. @ SMURF, go and watch First Lady and come back and tell me if Alex Ekubo is an only fine speaking actor. Even IK Ogbonna...there was one he acted where he was so street. Ahhhh...it’s a shame that we undermine the hard work of new Nolly when these people are exporting entertainment for us. Please take the time to watch these movies. Are there some crappy ones? Yes! Also old Nolly has its target market too.

I have been a BV for over 6years, i rarely reply people but what made me start trolling you is, as a newbie you started with insulting people left and right, acting very uncouth! I dont care if you are Stella's biological brother... use your brain most especially since you have posted your pictures here. Stella post my comment.

  10. Bollywood did an overhaul, the A list artists did not groom others and are not producing A list films too. Upcoming artists abi performers act anyhow. Their board should declare an emergency in that field.

  16. Nollywood cinema movies are rubbish. Waste of money. With their fake actors, I stopped watching a long time ago. Even Bryan Okwara considers himself an actor. SMH. The best Nollywood actor at the moment is Ken Erics. I don't watch Nigerian movies anymore but if I must, it's because he's in it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thank God I dont watch movie at all, I only listen to good music. Good to know that I have not been missing out.

  18. We should stop this nonsense please. We once rushed to watch Nollywood movies nah, is it now that we have access to DSTV and others that we are now complaining/comparing? Take it or live, without those old movies, we'd not had known people like Omosexy, Osuofia, KOK, Genny, Rita, Omoni, Uche J, RMD, Joke, Kenneth, BobManuel, Ini, Jim, Ije-kpoms, MamaG, etc.

Abi is it through Indian/Chinese movies we'll know them? They really entertained us o. Appreciate what you have.
Good actors have high demands and those Lekki actors wish to be Asaba but under what platform?
Even that new guy Zuby Michael is making it.

  20. My own is once I tune to any Nollywood channel and I sight blue, green or red wall, I change the channel fast. The only new film I enjoyed in over how many years of absence is one that Desmond Elliot acted as the owner of one Epe Resort hotel alongside Iyabo Ojo. I can’t remember the name now oh. I am yet to see a recent interesting movie of my people. Till then, make I de watch my documentaries and border patrol de go.

  23. I don't watch Nollywood movies. Lost interest in them a long time ago. I only watch if it's being hyped online.

    I'm into foreign TV series.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That Akada movie is the worst movie on earth! I cried the day I watched it, cried because of my data.. Ovy's voice should win best Nigerian movie

    ReplyDelete
  25. Foreign series can also be pretty wack! 'Stopped watching Telemundo long ago 'cos their villains never ended up with sufficiently just desserts; and 'true love' always appeared to be the trump card that justified everything, including adultery, divorce and remarriage. That, in addition to poor acting, scripting and storylines (some appeared to be written by six-year olds). 'Hope they have improved.'Have never watched Zee World. I do like the Phillipine productions though. Well put together stuff.
