Kingsley Otuya, 34, ran a romance and investment fraud schemes that bilked over a million dollars from Americans but his game came to an end when one of his victims took her own life after losing hundreds of thousands of dollars and being emotionally devastated by a romance scam.
In addition to his prison term, Otuya was ordered to pay close to a million dollars in restitution and be placed under up to three years of supervised release after he completes his prison term.
Officials say Otuya was one of the individuals responsible for withdrawing funds and sending to co-conspirators in West Africa before the victims could reclaim their money, for his part, he would collect a fee.
Department of Justice staffers believe Otuya will likely face deportation as a result of the conviction.
