Nigerian Prince Swindles Hundreds Of Job Seekers Out Of $54,000 In The US

Osmond Eweka, a so-called Nigerian prince, appeared in Manhattan court on over the weekend.
He was accused of scamming New York job seekers out of thousands of dollars by promising to find them work.

The 31-year-old asked the court for permission to travel to Nigeria for the upcoming birth of his son, the Daily Mail reported.

Eweka and his friend, Kamel McKay, were accused of creating bogus employment agency firms and used Indeed.com to find their victims.

They interviewed victims and made them pay a fee, ranging between $300 and $700.

The two men would then send the job seekers to businesses where they were turned away, because the employers were not expecting them.

Eweka pleaded not guilty to charges of larceny and scheme to defraud in July.

Prosecutors said some of the jobs Eweka and McKay promised their victims were for hotel housekeeping and front desk receptionists.

According to court documents, Eweka and McKay used office space in the Empire State Building and another building on Fifth Avenue to run two bogus employment agency firms, Stamford Consulting Firm and Howard Consulting Group.

They also used fake names, according to the New York Post.

Eweka went by the name, Sean Jackson, and McKay reportedly used the name, Tyrone Hayes.

According to authorities, Eweka and McKay duped 250 people and pocketed more than $54,000. Prosecutors said they never provided a single job. They ran the alleged scam from January to June 2018.

Eweka is a prince from the Benin royal family in Nigeria, according to reports, and a United States citizen living in New Jersey. McKay is from the Bronx.

Both men were indicted on charges of larceny and scheme to defraud. McKay was arraigned last week and released on $200,000 bail, the New York Times reported.

Eweka was in court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released without bail.

In 2016, Eweka married attorney Imade Igbinedion in an elaborate wedding ceremony in Nigeria.

    1. that is uncalled for making a generalization like that. I have lived abroad for over 20 yrs, in those years I went back to school for my MBA at a top 5 school in the US. I now work for a fortune 500 company making 6 figures. I have fellow nigerians in my company who have followed a similar path. I have tons of friends and classmates who are law abiding and thriving in their careers, "hardly" does not even come close. Not bragging but just wanted to correct a wrong impression because of 1 bad apple. For every one like this guy, I tell you there are a thousand thriving and not breaking the law.

    5. Don't really think one should bother with myopic minds. If you know what some people have achieved in this abroad, you will jump into the lagoon.

There are professionals abroad doing very well for themselves. When I had my csection, the doctor that operated me was probably 30- 32, a female Nigerian doctor and she led the team.

There are doctors, nurses, teachers, project managers, engineers, lawyers, IT specialist etc here. Keep thinking every Nigerian living abroad is a scammer or low life. What some people earn per day abroad, you people don't earn in a month.

    4. Did you read where the anon wrote ''popular'' family. We all know Imade is an Igbinedion and doesn't lack money.
But the thing is many of these families also want to marry an equally popular/rich family. Same mistake they made with Omosede, they wanted her to marry Oba Akenzua's nephew, married packed up barely 2/3yrs.

    5. 16:42, so are you and the 1st anon in essence saying she should have been looking for a broke guy to marry? Cos I’m not getting you. Some marriages work out and some don’t. Some men turn out to be awesome husbands and some turn out to be wolves in sheep’s clothing. It doesn’t mean you should seize an opportunity to mock people’s situation just because they’re wealthier than you or didn’t settle with someone of your caliber. Both your comments are laced with jealousy IMO

  12. But this so called 'outsourcing agency' is common in Nigeria specially in lagos. I remember when I was job hunting desperately, they tell you to pay 5k or more for form and to get you a job after long follow up you don't hear anything from them or they send you to a place like a bakery or something lower than your standard and qualifications or you live in ajah and they give you an address for a job in ajangbadi that pays 10k. That way you get discouraged and leave your hard earned money you probably borrowed for them. Abeg no blame the guy the thing follow am from home and he probably felt he'll get away with it just like the ones that do it back home
