Following an alleged outbreak of yellow fever in Edo state, The Health and Human Services Secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says it will commence immunisation exercise for residents aged between nine months and 44 years on Saturday.
The immunisation exercise is expected to commence today Saturday and continue until Dec. 7.
Alhaji Adamu Bappah, the institution's secretary made this known on Friday at the flag off ceremony for mass vaccination campaign against yellow fever at Damagaza community in Abuja.
He said the flag off was expected to increase community awareness, acceptance, uptake and utilisation of good quality as well as safe yellow fever vaccine which would be administered free of charge.
He mentioned effective ways for the prevention of yellow fever disease which include vaccination which must be administered routinely to all babies at nine months in line with the National Routine Immunisation schedule.
Bappah also said that other preventive measures include avoiding bites from the infested mosquitoes and reducing the population of the transmitting mosquito.
Bappah said vaccination would take place in all government health facilities and temporary posts in palaces of monarchs and other locations.
Residents have been advised to ensure they are immunised, and pay no heed to fake reports as the vaccination has no negative effect.
The representative of UNICEF, Mrs Iyabobola Ajibola, advised residents of the community to be hygiene consciousness, saying this was one of the preventive measures.

Let me go and ask my mummy if I should take. Lol....
ReplyDeleteTook mine last week though cos I needed a yellow card...and I paid 2500
DeleteWhy the angry face na Stella?
ReplyDeleteYeah. I had mine in Ghana by chance. Trust naija naa, always issue both fake and genuine yellow fever cards at the airport. Only for us to get to Ghana and they discovered the fake ones. I was among the people that fell in that category lol. Well we were not allowed in and we were given an option of either taking the vaccine and paying 3k equivalent or not take the vaccine and still pay the 3k. (Ghana too sabi bad tinz like is) I chose the former cos in the long run it will benefit me for another ten years before I take another.
ReplyDeleteThey should do this in Lagos too and every other state
ReplyDeleteMy daughter n I had ours
