Actress Bimpe Oyebade Says Her Dark Skin Is A Blessing

These days, bleaching is arguably common, especially in the entertainment industry, but Bimpe Oyebade, a professional model turned actor and movie producer, has said that she has never thought of changing the colour of her skin just to fit in.

She said, “I started acting professionally in 2017; after I featured in a movie, I got positive responses from the audience. I have never been tempted to tone or bleach my skin at all. My dark skin has always been a blessing to me even before I started acting. I get a lot of opportunities because of the colour of my skin.

“When I started acting, my parents were skeptical about my decision but after I featured in a movie and got positive responses from my fans, I was motivated. My mum was scared of me going into acting initially because of the kind of stories she hears about celebrities, but I explained to her that I was really interested in it and she supported me. After she watched my first movie, she was convinced. I have never had any challenging role, but I have noticed a lot of people like me when I cry in movies.”

Oyebade, who recently produced her third movie about a cancer patient, noted that it was an adaptation of a true life story.

“My recent movie is actually a true life story; the plot was inspired by what someone has passed through while battling cancer. I upload my movies on the Internet because of my international fans. I have always had a passion for story-telling.

    2. I have so many people ask me what I use on my skin and I only use my Diy Black Soap and Diy Shea Butter Cream!

Nothing can make me bleach or even relax my hair again!

Nothing beats being natural...black shinning natural hair, caramel skin and contentment!

      **Diy-do it yourself **

  2. I thank God for all He's done but i wish i was dark skinned. I am this kind of light skinned that some places are darker than some parts of my body. Like my face, feet, knees are darker than my thighs and legs. Dark skin is so beautiful to me and so easy to maintain. My beautiful daughter took her dad's skin tone and i'm so happy. Nothing is more beautiful to me than dark, shiny, healthy skin

    2. You need to exfoliate more often, my dear. You need to use sunscreen. You need to make lemon juice your friend and you need to even out your skin tone.

You can also use vit. E oil if you are on @BV blackberry's team. Just try and even it out.

    4. It’s not about avoiding direct sunlight it’s more about using sunscreen every time you step out.

    2. Anon , you can also wear red lipstick if you are dark skinned.
Just look for the right shade e.g. red with blue undertone.
Mac Russian Red, Colourpop Promenade and AustaConcepts Ose (Nigerian made) are perfect examples of these 👆

Also make sure you use the right lip pencil; you can ombre it out by using a pencil a shade darker e.g Mac Nightmoth, Tara Takuere etc

  10. Na wa oh. Parents need to step up by teaching their younglings from an early age to be comfortable in their own skin be it dark skin or not.Light skinned black women have their own struggles but you don't see them literally shoving their skin colour down our throats. One can chant all the black don't crack mantra they like but until one realises that skin colour is actually not the devil here rather self insecurities you might as well not bother. A self assured person (not a narcissist oh) is an attractive person irrespective of the skin colour. So, can we please have a 2019 with less of all the black skin yen yen.

    1. You mirrored my thoughts. In the end, the dark skinned girls are usually the ones insecure about their complexion. I'm tired of all the melanin mantra trending.

Women need to move past their body image issues. Dark or lightskinned, you are beautiful.

However, life is all about choices. If you feel altering your skin tone will make you happier, then go ahead. It's your life and your body.

I have seen people who looked way prettier after bleaching and those who looked worse. Either way, a woman's worth has nothing to do with her physical appearance.

  13. Growing up i didn't like my dark skin cause i was always called names like blacky, under of pot,m too dark, there's no difference btw me and darkness, how my shade of foundation isn't in the market bla bla and i tried using creams to change that but m thankful none worked cause as an adult i have come to love this skin of mine that when dey call me those names it doesn't get to me anymore,i just love my skin more and more everyday.. sometimes i just stand in the mirror admiring myself😂😂

    1. That's great! You should never let anyone bodyshame you.

Growing up i was very lightskinned. I was teased as well. Some girls in my neighbourhood called me names like albino escape. I even over heard one girl telling another that I wasn't pretty buy just light skinned.

So when i got into the university i started using foundation and press powders that were 2 shades darker just so people could see how I'd look if i was a little darker. Looking back, i can't imagine how funny i looked with my coke and fanta appearance. Lol!

Anyway, I returned home at the end of 100 level only to observe that all the girls who used to make fun of me had bleached their skins. The joke was definitely on me!

I threw out all my dark foundations and replaced them with suitable ones. Since then i have owned my skin. I love my light skin and i take good care of it.

I learnt something very important from my experience...People will always criticise and try to make you feel insecure or guilty for not fitting into society's expectations of you. But you can either conform or disregard them and be happy in your own skin .
