Let us share areas that particular small scales businesses have a higher prospect of bringing in more profit.......

Is it possible to start a business with N20k?Like a puff puff business? What are the things to look out for when you are purchasing such?I would never buy puff puff locked in a show glass but would prefer you fry for me as as soon as i get there.....Is this not a better option?..Some people even sell left over and re-fried puff and lose their customers and they begin to blame their enemies...

Make up artists?I hear the big time ones make a lot of money.....What qualifies one to be termed big time?
Wedding vendors?Good business, how does one start off?

Are there some businesses that are gender specific?

You can share big and small ideas and give tips to how you built yours!

    1. Stella that your puff puff suggestion can never work in Nigeria. One will mix the flour, keep it and wait for customer to come before frying? Hehehehe. Nigerians are always in a hurry. Sometimes you will even run and sell to someone in a moving vehicle.
About the show glass too, local government health officials do harrass people selling puff puff and other snacks without show glass or plastic rubber with cover. If you display your puff puff in open air like that with all the dust and germs flying around, it is not hygienic and some people won't even buy.

Also, you can do I on Trueteller if you have Internet enabled computer or Good Android phone. You will just charge the customers accordingly. To increase your profits, you can also add DSYV and startimes bills payment to it.

    1. Whatever business you want to get into should be people centric and fast moving. Cos you have a capital that you will have to reinvest in the shortest possible time. So let's say consumables and wearable won't be a bad start for you.. Cheers

    2. I really want to invest a little money but my problem is people I give money for business always let me down. Once they get hold of the money, its one story or the other. I will not see any dividend or capital abi na jinx?

    3. @anon 15:06. Before giving people Money for business, always asks what's in it for me (WIIIFM). This helps you properly place your investment in that venture. Discuss if it's a loan to be paid back and at what interests or timewframe. And if not, always pitch for a stake in the business. Say a 5% without further investment. So once the business begins to make a Naija, you get that share and if it crumbles eventually, you have not lost totally. I know the question will be: how do you know if the business makes profit. Well, that's where proper documentation and agreements must be put in place prior any disbursement. Cheers

Until we accept we are great and meant to achieve more, we will keep being our number one enemy. So dear Abra, please girdle your loins, brace for the storm, paddle for the shore and don't get yourself defeated by yourself. I wish you all the best and please be strong.. Cheers darling. I prefer what people likes more and sells faster.

      Delete
    3. Buying and selling of the "biggi" and big colas is a function of the society we are where people desire quantity over other things. You can get your supplies once you are ready to get started as no key distributor of marketer will ask you to wait 3months.. Get the contact of the commercial and marketing department, speak to someone inside and you can get started.. Challenge with coke is the price and people tend to ask why buy a coke for 150 when cola sells for 100 and Pepsi also sells for same.

    4. Do you also know that you can start OK sneakers and shoes with 20k or less.I have a woman who goes to Cotonou, when she opens you pick your choice for as low as 1k and sell for #1,500.Very nice sneakers and shoes.

Bale people are also at Arena complex at oshodi.

    5. People now prefer Bigi and Cola to Coca Cola(Coke et all) especially in Lagos. Coca cola is now "priding", small quantity with inflated price.

Success in your Biggi drinks business sisterly.

    1. I am into this type of business and I can confirm that you don't need much capital except you buy bales; If you don't buy in bales, you can
1.PICK:in this case you go to a market and meet people who open bales and buy any quantity of your choice from them, you can decide to pick first grade wears of children clothes(I started with this)tops, trousers,or any other clothing you prefer.Just remember that first grade wears are costlier because they are very close to new
2.CLEARANCE:this is for people who may not afford to pick.Clearance is the remaining clothes after people may have picked to their satisfaction and the seller decides to sell off the remaining in bulk. When you clear, you buy all the clothes at an amount you and the seller agree on.
For any one of the above you are doing, dont forget to go for London wears, credit kills the business

    1. If you are prepared for some of the stress that comes with it. However, the operating cost for that should not be neglected. It's about a 30-50% markup on each noodle you sell, so it's relatively good and note that the key to the business is LOCATION and customer relations... Cheers

Meanwhile i am thinking of becoming a coco cola distributor and i heard its capital intensive? Does anyone have any idea how much it will cost me? And how i can go about it.

Is it advisable to get a loan mostly from family members ooooh not banks in order to start a new business?

Biko where are the business moguls in this blog? come out lets tap from ur pool of knowledge. I want to buy a G wagon too this year lol.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It's pretty advisable to get loans from family members to start any business as those are your first customers and surest link to finance. Second will be your close friends and allies who believe in your deal. Apparently, you cab offer your friends a stake in your business as owners if you want their capital for a longer period. Say a 1% or less stake. Bank loans kill small businesses as you will be paying close to 40% interest which many people don't know.

      Delete
    2. Go and get loan from banks. Family members can't trust you with their money Bcos of previous disappointments and being taken for granted.
Most learned people are wiser not to borrow family today and receive heartache andinsults tomorrow.
Some even pretend they forgot to pay back.
All the best in your Coca Cola business and bank loan.

      Delete
    3. My new year resolution is not to invest on family. Give them loan and kiss it goodbye.

      Delete
    4. Coco cola isn't giving out distributorship anymore, they have mega distributors now,you can buy from them and no longer directly from Coco cola.there is no more rebate.this takes effect from March 2019.but they stopped giving d distributorship right last year.you can also do your findings

      Delete
    5. Family and friends will jot look your side. Well it depends on the family sha.

      Delete
    6. Well, sourcing for funds for small business shouldn't start with a bank because what comes with it actually kills the business and Moreso, which bank will give you loan based on your idea or that you have a propect revenue line. Even if you have. That will still cost you some money to get an analyst or pro to design a business plan and growth projections for your business which is subjective to the bank to accept or reject. The first real source of finance for a small business is family, friends, colleagues, and your immediate investment minded pool. So don't let this issue of disappointed family members melt you. You have to preach what is in it for them cos they have to see the value their money will generate and what your repayment plan is and once these are documented and visible. You are good to go.. Cheers

      Delete
    7. imo, I don't advise people to get loans from banks to start up a business.bank loans are good but they are better used to upgrade or expand a business because of interest and repayment plans.
if you have dependable family source and you are honest about repayment,by all means get your loan from family

You can start a hair business with 20k. Braided wigs. Buy like two wig caps for N400-500 each. Buy four attachments big at N1,000 each. That’s 4K. Then look for a good braider let the person do a nice neat style. Pay the person 4K if it’s long braids, 2,500 if short. Sell for between 12 and 18k. I’m speaking from experience. This is how I started.

    1. What to do is having the desire and passion to succeed. Having the right customer you want to serve and their market preference. You need a very good knowledge of customer service, client relationship and quality products. How is all bent on the business/product you want to push to this identified customer group. SMEs cry for funds but the major problem is actually lack of structure and business plan. Lack of some bookkeeping skills nor attempt to keep records and end up seeking for loans and finance when they could not multiply the startup capital they had

  31. Improving small scale business takes a lot of discipline and desire to endear to basics of success. Your product/business is only selling because you have people buying. So customer service and relationship management is key if you want to have continued patronage. The challenge with small business is not mainly finance but structure. Many people who do small businesses here don't even have a book for records nor do account reconciliation at the end of the week or month to evaluate their revenue and cash position. Their business plan is not structured but just anywhere belle-face syndrome. It is imperative that to succeed, you must also define the market or customer you want to serve or sell to, their preferences as well as how they will like to be served. Remember, people now like to be serve where they live and in today's world, we all live on our phones. So how do you grab the attention of that guy that posts his meals daily on his walls or that babe that has been posting with same bed sheets for past 3 weeks, or that dude that says posts he is always in ratify or uber, how can you serve this people and give them value for same or marginally lower costs. The word is VALUE which is what people pay for at the end of the day. So whether you are expensive or cheap, what is the customer experience?... Cheers

  32. Charcoal business is very lucrative. But this depends on the area. For instance you can't be selling it in Lekki or VI or GRA. It moves in areas where we are middle class and lower class people. You can buy a quantity to the afford to buy and still make you profit. I hope to go into it when God blesses me with the cash

    2. and you thing everyone in those areas are wealthy??there are some places there were people live in wood houses, there are lots of local restaurants on the island and they use charcoal, stop saying what you don't know just cos of the things you see on instagram.....

    3. Ostrich you probably have not been to these places you mentioned or you just passed through the major roads. They have shanties on the island too and they use charcoal and firewood also.

  35. I am willing to go into this second hand clothing business if God remembers me again this year. Since my friend in China allowed Devil to use her and sat on my savings, If I see little cash now, I will deal with the things I can see here in Nigeria. UK grade one clothes like children wears or ladies tops and gowns is lucrative. Make sure you go early and pick very neat ones if you are not buying bales. Just ask those that are selling it, they will link you to those opening bales. Best of luck. This year is our year of progress.

  37. Hi pls could you shed more light on this? I'd like to venture into this business but only Online as I don't have enough money for shop yet. Where do your friends buy from?
Is 100k fine for a start?

  38. Starting a business is good but it is very important to know that not everyone is business savvy, and again you must undergo some trainings as to understand the rudiment of the business you intend venturing into. You need to know who are your market targets and the suppose service satisfaction you intend to render. In business, if you concentrate more on profit than consumer satisfaction, then you have fail. One who isn't good in business can as well be exceedingly good in skills.

Lately, I have been advicing people to look more on skills acquisition than business. A good skill can shoot you to millions in less than a year compare to business knowing the competitive economic situation of Nigeria at the moment that doesn't allow business flow smoothly.

Handwork pays massively lately compare to starting a business. I have some good skills paying that takes like six month, one year and so on to acquire but let me stick to the topic that says business else I would have elaborate on them.

    1. Please elaborate Teejay. Las las na money we dey find.

    2. teejay please i wouldn't mind of you can digress from the topic at hand and talk a little about the skills one can acquire within a short period of time and make cool money from. thanks

    3. Ok... Castle I am on transit now will type when I get home.

      Delete
    4. Kindly elaborate, money must be made

    5. Am with Teejay on this one....From my own perspective, I think learning a skill like tailoring, hairdressing, mechanic and co would pay better in the long run.Let's take for instance Olori that wants to sell bigi products, what if before a year runs out and another product comes and overtake? It's good to have a business but businesses with skill help further...People would sew clothes for life, people would make hair for life....I am work in progress as I have started learning tailoring..

    6. Alright let me try and see how fast I can write this down. Talking about skills, the first thing to come in mind should be, are you willing to get dirty for money?  Skills are not for gentle men or lazy people, so if you are one, then I will recommend an office job with AC for you lolzzzz.

Below are some good and lucrative skills paying very well. They aren't the only skill one can learn but with this, when perfected gives one at least a profit of not less than 300-500k on a particular job you carried out. A female friend I know cash in very well on that POP and wall Screeding.

      1. Interior design.
      2. POP and wall Screeding.
      3. Construction of Aquarium/water fountain
      4. Production of chemical and hardener  for flooring.
      5. Installation of CCTV cameras,
      6. Swimming pool construction
      7. 3D Epoxy floor, ceiling and wall. (very expensive in learning as a result of the course of material)
      8. Wall mural and descriptive painting.
      9. Electrical installation.

By God special grace will love to teach one or two person for free when I am done with my training.

These aren't the only lucrative skill but believe me they aren't seasonal and pays triple of what smaller skills can give you.  Any of the skill you don't understand above can be Google for better understanding.

    7. @alabi yetunde you are right in what you said. Business can fluctuate or have a competitive rival but a skill sail through always.

  40. I'd start from PASSION,think deeply about what you like to do most and carve a business out of it,if u like fashion and people compliment your dressing, look around you and start with SOMETHING no matter how little,be sure to push and carry on no matter what,iv gone to the markets while sick because I coudnt afford to let the client down, you must ENJOY the hustle so any drama that comes with the business will not feel like a big deal, stop waiting for BIG CAPITAL,if u know your way, with 30-50k you will get whatever no matter how little(bag fit full if u prefer quantity to quality)be assured there's a market for ANYTHING!!

  42. Stella happy new year. My own contribution is that anyone that wants to start a business should get some training on it. That's what we call apprenticeship. Those days,Igbos will send their sons for apprenticeship for up to six years after which the young man starts his own. Even the woman that sells roasted plantain on my street has two people learning the trade. My point is, do some research and get some knowledge on whatever trade you want to ply. Talent is not enough. Some people are good businessmen while others are not. Some are skilled but their PR is Zero. There's this lady that is near perfect when it comes to sewing and designing but her mouth is baaaad. Her type should employ a manager or staff who deals directly with clients. Know what you can offer, know your strengths and weaknesses, you are sure to prosper.

    1. If you want to go into cosmetics business, go to tradefair in Lagos and get it in wholesale at cartons or in dozens. Please do a research on what products works well and the ones that sell well in the market before buying, when you generate good customers, you get referrals and people will patronise you.

Feasibility study is the key to getting good customers,in my area their is no single shop to get anything and we had to go like two or three streets away before we could get pure water,so what I did was begged my landlady and erect a container and starts selling every day needs since jobs are not forthcoming.I do sell a lot but no much capital to buy the goods in bulk and make higher profit but still hoping on God to provide more money as I sell things people can't do without in a day.check your area, see what people need that is not available and cash on it

In our society people's health is being ravaged by all manner of diseases.
I have also discovered that it less costly to prevent than to treat diseases.
Even doctors are now more into preventing than managing
Am into providing solutions to health challenges and as well as prevention.
