Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative

Hmmmmmm.......

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
CONFUSED...

Please help a confused fellow in decision making. I am 26 and will be getting married early next year by God's grace but my introduction is this year. I got Npower job last year August which should end August 2020 unless if the government opt for permanency.

I take students on my street extra lessons and also have a side hustle which was established for me and managed by my fiancé. He sends the money generated from the business weekly because we are in different states and businesses booms faster in his city. That is the reason why I chose his place for the location of the business.

Prior 2019, I had no intense interest in going for my Masters although many people are telling me to go for it including my parents. They say my 2:1 will not be complete without it. Many people say that it is better to do it before marriage or obtain the form before one starts giving birth. Then on 1/1/2019, Msc became one of my set goals and the thirst for it became intense. So, I made up my mind to obtain the Msc form of a University where my Fiancé resides.

The form will be out by June and the program is just for a year (Jan- Dec 2020). I have already informed my parents and Fiancé. All of them are happy for this decision.

Last year December, I applied for First Bank Graduate trainee programme. I was short listed for the aptitude test . When I applied for this job, Msc was not on my mind at all. I thought I needed to get a good job in that city before relocating and marriage.

If I go for this banking job ( do the test and pass the series of interviews), Npower will stop paying and I'll have to stop the home tutorials but I will still have my business. Although, the bank salary will be higher than what I presently earn but Masters will have to be on hold for 3-5 years.

On the other hand, I am seeing this as an opportunity because out of the three people around me that applied for it, I was the only one that saw their invitation mail and I haven't told anyone about the mail yet.

If I reject this invitation, I will still retain my three sources of income till December. When I start my Msc classes, home tutorials will stop but I will be on ground for my business, Npower will continue to pay till Aug 2020 or probably be extended, put to a stop or be absorbed into the federal government sector.

What if I go for my Masters and find it difficult to get a better job after? What if I lose an opportunity that I will never regain? What if I resign from Npower and later get sacked from banking sector? My head is filled with many "what ifs" because Nigeria is a country of uncertainties.

Last week, I saw myself in a dream having my Masters. Could this be a sign or just a reflection of our thoughts or daily activities? Another disturbing thing is that I remember that I had similar dream last year when I had zero interest to further my education. Please advice me.

Thank you.

*Na wah.....Just do whatever gives you peace of mind.....Remember that if you get the Bank Job and get married and get pregnant immediately, they will sack you...That's what i heard oh,that you have to be working for the Bank for a couple of years before you start having babies....

Discuss with the people who matter and then make a concrete decision....
Good luck!!!

    1. That is not true at all. You can get pregnant after your 6months confirmation. And tell you what, the targets are seniors officers not entry level staff. The bank is looking at hiring staffs with low salaries to do the job just to save money. They don't have time to sack entry levels at all. Why not get the job and enrol for part time for your Msc? Weekend programme only! It worked for me.

    2. This is not true , first bank does not stop u from getting married and starting a family as a matter of fact you can be married at the point to employment.. Cheers by the way welcome to the banking sector

    4. My advice? Take the bank job. The pay is steady, and you need the post graduate experience in your CV for better jobs later
Keep the NPower job. If you don't tell them you have gotten another job, they wouldn't know. My colleague in the office still receives his salary from Npower despite having gotten a better job with us.
Find out if you can enrol for weekend program for your MSc, if not, let it slide for now. You can always do your masters later or apply for Open university MSC, that one is basically online.
Do not lose that Bank job.

  3. Madam poster why are you carrying all these matter on your head like gala, why are you giving yourself unnecessary headache. Life is all about taking risk, whatever the result may be, life will definitely go on. When you fall you rise again. So come on take the option you feel more comfortable with & leave the rest to God. Better don't get hypertension. It is not by your power or even your choice, it's God's grace,so pray & be at peace with whatever decision you make.

  4. "When you had zero interest in the masters, you saw a dream and you had masters"
It depends on your relationship with God; has he been speaking to you through dreams?
have you kept yourself pure for marriage?
If yes to the above two, then, that masters is the way forward. If you can combine it with your new job prospects good. If not, keep your businesses and go for your masters etc.

  5. When I was a bank staff, I did my MBA at the same at UNILAG. Our classes were in the evening.
Find out if your school does evening classes.

Again, you haven't even got the job yet and you are stressing yourself. How about go for the aptitude tests and interview first and see what comes.

  6. Very difficult something. I'd say go for your masters, at least your current job and side hustles will still be there.

  7. I see no problem here. Go through the recruitment process, get the job before you start deciding on what path to tow... I’m certain that by then, God will make his will obvious that you don’t need to ask questions. Goodluck

  8. Rub mind with your fiancee and come to a reasonable conclusion. I did mine when I was pregnant with my second child, working and still working with the same multinational and I also had and still have my side hustle. I guess it's just your mind planning the future for you. Relax and solutions will come. Although I must confess my job gives me liberty to do whatever I want cause i am in sales. The real deal is my numbers at the end of the month.

  9. Madam, one step at a time.Get d job first before thinking other wise. Before d bank job comes, let all status quo remain,as per ,continue your side hustle and initial.Do not truncate it cos of bank job.

On bank,it lacks creativity,no form of brilliance..na wetin D management tells u to do,u go do,if u do otherwise,u are on ur own.

Getting pregnant,in my bank,it depends on d department,if u get pregnant as Operations person as a new recruit, their will be eyebrow but not as in sales, where u maybe many. but I think generally in my bank, it is between 6-12 months and u can't go on annual leave and maternity leave in d same year but people do go. Nevertheless, concentrate on wat u have at hand.

  10. Dear poster, I suggest you go ahead with the banking job and apply for a part time Master's degree program. It sure wouldn't be easy but it will be worth it. Don't loose the banking job opportunity to fear and doubts. Stay positive always.

  11. Discuss it with the man you are getting married to and hear what he has to say. Why come here when you haven't discuss it the one who is dear to you?

  13. First bank won't sack you if you work at least 1 year before getting pregnant. First bank is a great bank to start a banking career. You can always do masters part time.

  14. Despite the dreams U have had about the Msc, I think it's also a great opportunity to get to know your fiance better, because marriage decision is one of the factors that make or mar a person, it's important to put that into consideration as well, U know, the bigger picture... & like stellz said, do what gives U peace of mind, all else will fall into place. Be positive dear, have faith..

  15. The decision is yours to make.
You can still do MSc depending on the field and school (as per part time Level) when you get the banking Job.
As per giving birth on the job, you will not be entitled to maternity leave if you are still under probation or alternatively you forfeit the months salaries.
A Piece of advise, kindly opt for marketing role in FBN if you want career growth.

Trust me. I am talking from experience.

  20. There is nothing like sacking someone if they get pregnant immediately after marriage and resumption of duty. Definitely not in 2019 will that be practiced.
Poster my advice to you, take that bank job. Forget all this NPower bla bla. You may not remain in Banking forever but it is a good place to start, good work experience and good on your CV.
Put your Master/Msc on hold. Majority of people you see working in the Bank don't even have a Master's degree and many do it while still working. After you have spent a few years you can apply for 1yr study leave, you can even travel and do the Masters abroad, getting a studet visa will be easy for you because the Bank can write a Letter of Introduction for you. When you come back your job will also be waiting. Many also do a part-time programme while working if you want to do it here.
Don't throw away that First Bank Graduate training programme for anything. Its a really good step, you are trained for a year, you also work at all major departments in the Bank before they now discover your strength and where to place you. That programme is a good experience that has helped many people.
I am not saying you must be in banking forever some find it stressful, but starting off on that programme is good for you. Don't let people scare you about marriage and working in a Bank, you will not be SACKED for getting pregnant. Many have joined and gotten pregnant within the year, they go for their usual 3month mat leave, and 3months closing early and they are fine.
2.1 is also very good, minimum for most banks is 2.2 they don't hire 3rd class. And you don't need any further accreditation asides that 2.1, that in itself is more than good enough for a start.
Nigeria is very hard as regards job, no one throws away such offer. I pray you make a right choice. Good luck

  21. You can do banking job and get your Muscat the same time, it will be very stressful tho. I don't think you should pick MSc over a good job. If you get the job you might not even need an MSc, just work on getting some key certifications and you will rise through the ranks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My sister,I will advise you keep your empower programme and your business. Bank job doesn't have guarantee couple with the stress. It's better to be self employed than working 9-5 everyday. Those working in the Bank are running from it,you want to enter. At the Long run, you Will be glad you maintain your business. I am talking from experience. Doing your MSC will be of good to your career as a teacher.

  23. Go through with the recruitment. See if they take you first , then u can decide

  24. Remember this much talked about introduction of yours is yet to happen na boyfriend you still get. Don't base your decision on a man

  25. Poster you seem to worry too much. First off, go through the bank recruitment process and see the outcome...
My husband was a first bank staff when he completed his masters in unilag..classes were weekends(parttime). This is a good option if you are recruited.
Take your steps one at a time and pray thats all. Just stop overthinking!

  29. if you want to be a career woman, then take the bank job. entry level salary in first bank is about 200k plus. Npower can end anytime, masters can be done as part time. kids can wait till you are confirmed in the bank.
