Obasanjo Throws Shade At Buhari ''I was Not Absent From Home For 104 Days...''

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has aimed another snide remark at President Muhammadu Buhari.

On January 20, 2019, Obasanjo had held a State of the Nation broadcast in which he said Nigerians would be "fools" — himself inclusive — if Buhari is reelected into power next month.

The next day, in a video published by BBC, Obasanjo also said Buhari is sick in the body, mind and spirit.

In his most recent take on Buhari, the former President, who was the guest speaker at the Island Club Quarterly Business Lecture, on Wednesday, criticised Buhari for his lenghty absences from office and the country on medical grounds.

In the years since he was sworn in as President of Nigeria in 2015, Buhari has spent 104 days outside the country on medical vacation.

However, speaking on the competence of his former vice, Obasanjo said since he didn’t spend 104 days outside the shores of the country, people may not know that Atiku stood in his stead in many capacities while they were in charge of the country’s administration.

According to Obasanjo, contrary to popular belief, Atiku presided over several Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings under his 1999-2007 administration.on the latter’s medical vacation.

He also stated that one of the most ridiculous claims he has heard is that he did not trust Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, to preside over the FEC.

His words: “That is not true because he had occasion to preside a few times that I was out of the country on duty. On those occasions, he was in charge of the FEC meetings and no Nigerian chief executive has devolved to his deputy as much as I did to Atiku.

“I did not need to designate him ‘acting president’ because the constitution is clear; once the president is not available, the vice president automatically acts with full powers, and he consults when and if he considers it necessary.

“But since I was not absent from home for 104 days at a time, people may not know that Atiku actually stood in for me whenever I was out (of the country). You have a man who has what it takes in experience, exposure, lessons that he has learnt and he has learnt his lessons. I tried to teach him a few of them. You have a man who has what it takes at this time for us to have a change and we need a change for the better.”

    1. President Buhari is a Failure and will never comeback again. I listened to Atiku/Peter Obi yesterday and my conclusion is that Atiku is better than Osibanjo and Buhari combined while Peter Obi is a Man ahead of Time and out of this World!!

  2. One of Baba words I love so much on Atiku was,he said: “When you become Nigerian President which, insha-Allah, you will be, remember what we did together in government – we ran an administration by Nigerians for all Nigerians where merit and performance count more than blood relationship, friendship or kith and kin.

“Although some time and ground have been lost, you should endeavour to start from where we stopped and recover some lost ground, if not time.”

Some people may not love Baba, but when it comes to the Nigeria politics I give it to him. He is truly a democrat and an elder statesman. No administration have been successful as his, for giant stride development was recorded under his watch even though he had some weaknesses and short comings. I love his outspokenness on national issues. If Atiku and Obi renege on their campaign mantra after being elected, Baba won't hesitate to wrestle them out as well.

    1. Thank you Teejay. If other elder statesmen and “elders” were this outspoken, any leader in power will be careful to pursue the best for the country rather than this conspiracy of silence we’re witnessing.

  5. Baba, as much as I like you, you are beginning to sound like you are still interested in power- indirectly through Atiku if he wins... You are trying to teach him some of these things? Don't be deceived sir, if Atiku ever wins, you will be sidelined and we will start hearing stories that touch.

But sir, when did Atiku become born again? We still have your numerous interviews and your publications about him (Atiku) being evil. Oh ok, you said he has apologized to you! Are you kidding me?

What happened to the 'Not Too Young To Run' that you supported at some point? Oh Atiku is a youth!

Baba, I no wan vex o. But I still like you. Enough sir....

  6. Awon ole gbogbo. Both of them ruined this Country. They sold FG properties to themselves , sacked several workers thereby impoverishing several families.
I know God still rules in the affairs of Men and would deal with these people at His own time.

    1. If you are talking, don't just attack Obj / Atiku alone but start from the First Republic, those who laid the foundation of corruption up till this point.

Don't declare some saints and others sinners.

    2. Wow!!! Say what you know always. Very wrong accusations. All parastatals and govt properties sold were dead already. E.g., Nigerian airways which died in 1989. Pls say what you know always.

  7. It is so sad. So Atiku is now the better option? Obasanjo is my grandmother's age. I would never trust my grandmothers decisions. Shes not fully mentally capable and has selective memory retention. For Obasanjo, everything is a game of "ayo". He is not stable which is understandable for those at his age. Buhari is not capable and neither is Atiku. Why should we be returning old, worn out, used people? Why cant we choose someone new, new blood, new ideas? Its so sad. Ive made up my mind. I will be true to my conscience. I cant see myself casting a vote for an illiterate or a thief. Id rather vote for kingsley moghalu. After all, if Lagos didnt take the chance for Tunde Fashola who was virtually an unknown entity, we would never have known what he could do.
