Airport Cleaner Who Was Rewarded For Returning Millions Of Naira Laments

Josephine Agwu, the airport cleaner who gained popularity after she returned huge sums of money forgotten at the airport multiple times, has lamented about not being rewarded adequately for her integrity.

Back in 2014, Ms. Josephine Agwu found ?12 million inside the airport toilet and returned it. She was praised and received cash gifts for the commendable act. Subsequently, she also found ?10 million, ?8 million, and ?7 million forgotten by travellers in the airport, and each time, she returned the suitcase containing the money over to the authorities.

In a recent interview, Ms Agwu complained about the level of poverty in Nigeria. She also pointed out that in other countries, she would have been better rewarded for what she did, but that isn’t the case in Nigeria.

She said: As you see me, I’m a person people know the whole world today. But see. Nobody in Nigeria do what I did.

I return money four times in Nigeria. I’m a cleaner, the year 2014 in Murtala Muhammed, return 12 million, return 10 million, return 8 million, return 7 million.

But if na other countries, I’ll be an ambassador to telling youths that honest is paying. But now see. They close it. Nobody to remember it.
But I’m happy. I know that one day…

  2. Keep up the good work ma, someday, your honesty will pay off.

Yesterday someone bought bedsheet from me and under priced it. He quickly paid me in a rush from a huge sum of money he brought out and left.
After which, I counted the money and realised it was more by 500 naira.
I had to count repeatedly to be sure.
Then, I went and returned his money to me. He was surprised he overpaid me and collected it quickly.
I was glad i did the right thing. Keeping it wouldn't have made me richer, but a pricking conscience would have become my companion.

  5. We do good for the satisfaction of it;making the next person happy.
Sometimes we get our rewards here;but more often than not,we don't,

Should we then stop doing good?
    Should we pay ourselves instead??

If your conscience is dead,it will be easy to do otherwise.

All in all,Posterity will never forget you....A good name,is better than riches.(remember the post last week on how a man was sent forth)

    May God help us all.

  9. Be honest not because you seek for a reward from men,but because it pleases God.

Honesty shouldn't be for the financial gains we wish to get, it should be for legacy and conscience sakes.

  10. Woman continue to do good and be not weary. Probably the reason you have not been rewarded is that you are looking in the wrong direction. Look on to God and He will abundantly reward you with that which cannot be gainsaid.
From most of the comments I see the reason our country remains the way it is. We have no moral justification to blame politicians it we continue to think this way. It is well with this nation.Γ

  12. we should all learn to do good without expecting a reward, if reward comes fine, if it doesn't life goes on, don't ever regret doing good cos you were not rewarded. there was a day I bought yam of 1400, gave the women 2k , she was to give me 600, but she doesn't want the woman pricing yam to know how much I'm paying, cos I actually price it like tomorrow no dey, she mistakenly gave me 1500, yes, she mistook 1k for 100 naira, I didn't check well until I got home, I was broke that day ehn, but I know no matter the situation i must not eat another man's sweat, took bike to meet the woman , she initially thought I was saying my change is not complete, but when she understands, she was so happy, and I was happy too, she said a lot of people will never return the money, and I smile, though I payed for transport to her place, to return her money, I was happy, cos I know she may not get that amount as profit at the end of the day

  14. Madam YOU ARE DESTINED TO BE POOR !! You didn’t steal the money you found, God put it in your way so that you can be rich ! Some of the money you returned were proceeds from money laundering activities. You wanted people to praise you instead of keeping the money and quietly enjoy it with your children and starting a side business with retirement from ‘cleaner work’ in view. Nigeria, a country where your leaders are stealing everyday, money for projects are siphoned into personal accounts and used to send their children abroad. Nigeria does not celebrate honesty or good behavior o! Don’t you see how they celebrate fraudsters, thieving governors and multimillionaire ritualists? Madam you have not done well for your family. Anyway, daddy freeze is helping you gather some money to give you as reward for your honesty. If you dare pay any pastor tithe out of that money then I will know you are a foolish woman and you will never be rich.

  22. Good name is better than silver and gold. But if we all start doing good and expect returns immediately, then we are not really good, besides I think they gave her commendations, recognition and some money. Was she seriously expecting to be rich from doing good? We need to change our mindset in Nigeria. The western counties we seek to go to, their citizens do good not for any reward but because it is ingrained in them from school/childhood to make the world a better place without seeking anything in return - my 2 cents
